Sounds like your dealer screwed up and is trying to keep you from digging. "Comping" the service equates to "we're doing you a favor so don't ask any questions". I'd be willing to bet that they somehow botched the work with your coils and plugs and tried to blame it on carbon buildup so there's no parts replacement record. I would stay far, far away from them in the future.
BTW, I just did coils, plugs, and wires for about $200. It's easy DIY work.

Unless you're doing a cross country trip over the pacific ocean to Hawaii, I don't think you need to worry about this particular dealership. lol.
