The new color is Copper Red.
You can see the exterior color and interior choices at this website:

It's the JDM Sports Prestige Limited II, basically our US Shinka II. In Japan, it also comes in Galaxy Grey, Snowflake White, and Brilliant Black.

Someone posted the 2006 RX8 PDL (Product Direction Letter)....I can't remember who though. The PDL's are internal to the OEM...so whoever it was that posted it either works for Mazda or know's someone who does. Anyway....per the PDL, in 2006, Shinka becomes a option package like "Touring" and "Grand Touring"....which means 2005 is the only Shinka branded RX8. If memory serves me, the "Shinka" pkg will be offered in three colors for 2006 (black cherry is not offered in 2006). Unfortunately, two of the colors are not limited to the "Shinka" pkg....possibly all three (don't remember). The "Shinka" pkg will still offer a unique interior and suspension upgrades as the 2005 does.

Found the link for the '06 PDL. https://www.rx8club.com/attachment.p...achmentid=56087. Under "Shinka" pkg....there are no colors listed. Perhaps the "Shinka" pkg will be available in any exterior color for 2006.

Not a big fan of red cars but yeah that color is a nice deep rich color. Like to see it in person though.

The Shinka colors are nice, but why the IMO goofy color for the seats. That color kills it for me. Reminds me too much of my '92 accord beater I had in college, tan seats, black dash.
On a side note, I am glad we are not RHD, that e-brake lever would drive me nuts.

Anybody know if the Sport Prestige Limited II is available with black Alcantara instead of sand? On Mazdausa.com build your own car they offer the copper red exterior with black Alcantara. Oh god I hope that’s the case because the copper red looks like it will be a beautiful color on the 8.

Ever seen a Black and Tan Miata? Yummmmy!
The main reason I bought my shinka was because of the understated, elegant cabin.. the color was a secondary consideration.

I agree tan leather looks best in cars.
If I sit in a car with a black interior (esp all black) it brings me down. Makes you sad and gloomy.
Tan looks classy. Look at any car ad (go to MB's or BMW's site) and you'll see most interiors as tan.
Im thinking of getting a touring and then putting aftermarket tan leather on my 8. Dont like the chaparan/black mixture.

I think unless you see a shinka in person on a clear day the pictures don't do justice. After most people are blown away by the color you show them the interior and they think the car is really really expensive.....

I was told by the Mazda headquarters person when trying to get my special order going through the dealer that they didn't know for sure if they were making a Shinka edition for the US this year. She told me they were initially talking about making a deep reddish-cranberry color (didn't give me a name for it). It was still in discussion since they were having the holdups with the Mazda 5 (the mini-minivan not the Miata as people have assumed in other threads). Anyways, I had been given the details of package options with the specs at headquarters to see what I wanted to pick for my car in case they had any extra little goodies I couldn't live without or any changes I didn't like and there wasn't a Shinka option for it. Then when the dealer was having my build it over the phone (so he could change the build order on the car for me) He said he would just read me the list and I could just say yes or no to what I wanted and he would check it off. He didn't read anything about a Shinka option, although they may have rolled some of the Shinka features into the Grand Touring Package (as headquarters was speculating) like the foam. Don't know since I don't have the details of what was in each package for 2006 yet (waiting for my book to come in the mail), just what the packages and options were, and they are the same packages, in name, as for 2005. I was told that basically the only changes they did make to the car had to do with their new 6-speed "manumatic" transmission with a little extra power. I guess we will just have to wait and see. If they do make one, the Mazda rep said to look for them around late June.
