no one knows

one thing that is theorized is a 5 or 6sp automatic transmission to replace the 4sp weaker one allowing for the higherpower engine with an auto tranny

^^^ I doubt that. The reason why they couldn't put the high power engine in the autos was because they don't make a torque converter that can handle 9K RPM.

I'm waiting, holding off on major money to modify my AT until I hear about the 2006. If the new AT has the higher power engine, I'll trade in my RX rather than obtaining the power through unproven add-ons. Then I'll gradually add some add-ons for extra power as icing on the cake.

If it will be 2007, beyond, or never, I'll start upgrading my 2005.

Yeah, I don't care if you have the ability to control what gear you're in, and if you have the same engine or not, without a clutch, you won't be able to control RPM levels as well, and you're still not going to have the full experience. You guys should just learn to drive stick.

i'm guessing the new 6 speed automatic from the new Miata will be used on the existing 197hp engine for the automatic 8.... still a major improvement IMO

what I really want to know is when they plan to bring out a factory-built Mazdaspeed version....

So you assume that since I drive an automatic, that I don't know how to drive stick?

Yea...the type that have a car incapable of out performing other M/Ts in their class on the straightaways so they let us feel the blunt of it. What a slue of dickwads man. I won't hesistate to bite back though.

Anyway I spoke to a Mazda rep at the customer service number and was told that one of the project planners speculated that Mazda is currently testing the new 5 speed AT from the Miata on other models but they won't have any confirmation on new changes to other models (like the RX-8) till the beginning of summer (less than 2 months?).

I personally doubt they're going to have new transmissions ready by this fall for the RX-8 but we'll know for sure in a couple months.

If you knew me you'd know I'd say whatever I say on this forum to anyone's face I aint shy, yo.

Anyways, that wasn't *really* meant for therm, that was meant for all North American auto drivers that are becoming more and more dependent on their transmissions to do everything BUT drive their damn car. Go to Europe and people actually DRIVE.

Say man--I don't know you and you damn sure don't know me--and what I do know is that you are talkin noise on the forum--the fact of the matter is people have their own reasons for buying whatever they are buying. Don't say a blanket statement like that and expect not to illicit a reaction.

Hey no hard feelings - of course I expected a reaction. It's a touchy subject with me. I totalled a truck when I was younger because some lady talking on a cellphone ran me off the road.

Alright--with that said we can squash it--I just get tired of the typical M/T vs. A/T threads--me personally I got my A/T because I got a deal on a used one and was able to get the extras--vs. a base 6spd with nothing in it. I use to have an FD so I rationalized it out by saying that the 6spd RX8 wasn't as fast as my old FD was. Next car whatever it is will be a M/T--at that point I'll be finished with dental school so I can afford it :o

Maybe not at the moment, but I imagine Mazda engineers could figure out how to build a 9k torque convertor if they wanted to (or if the bean counters allowed them to). It is possible for things to improve/progress/evolve. So I guess the question is, will they?

Gordon has been the point man for information every time this SMG/new auto tranny thread comes up--
here is one of the many threads
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...&highlight=smg

I would like to see how the rumoured SMG unit performs--otherwise I plan on getting an M/T next time around--especially since my finances will be 200% better.

Time for sarcastic hour...

You can't talk or make noise on a forum. It's all written...so what's your point?

lol....sorry just joking around, I can't help myself sometimes. It's funny to read people's thought and how mad and twisted things can get just from a few words.

Rumored, yes. It was supposed to be the same one used on the new MX-5, but since it didn't show up on the '06 MX-5 announcement I wouldn't expect to see it for the RX-8 either.

1st off...everyone knows that khtm talks **** to everyone...but we love him (and if you dont...START TO!)

i hope/doubt they'll come out with an 06. The rx8 didn't sell half as well as what they expected, and they're not going to waste more money. But if you look at it this way--this will brighten it up. If they don't make an 06, that leaves 2 years of prodection in the us..which makes our cars more rare...esp since you moron drivers keep totalling them!! :p *oh sorry, only the ones who talk on the phone and eat and do all sorts of **** at the same time which driving an AT...* IM JUST KIDDING...

But hopefully our cars will eventaully be like the 3rd gens....a 93 in great condition selling for 24k...

I totally disagree with you Morgan--Mazda has gone on record saying that the RX8's product run will be a long one. Besides--nobody but maybe Ford (mustang), Porsche, Ferrari, and Lambo make money on sporty cars/coupes. Mazda went on record saying that the sales of the bread and butter cars (3, 6, Tribute) allow them to do things like the RX8 and Miata. As long as Mazda is making money as a whole (which they are) we will see the RX8. Remember when the FD was discontinued Mazda finances were in shambles along with all of the other variables that discontinued that vehicle.
