2 quick questions... :)

So here are my 2 questions
1) So whats your gas mileage like during winter? does it get really bad? mine came from 18-19 to 15-16. is this normal? or did my coils or something like that die?

2) I was checking the oil tonight and i found this little line just dangiling out there. what is it? i think its the line your a supossed to remove when installing the AEM cai but im sure becuase that was a while ago

Thanks again

If you are warming your car, during that time you are burning gas without adding miles=> less gas mileage

How many miles are on your igntion coils and spark plugs? In the cold weather are you letting the car warm up/idle longer than normal because at idle you get 0 mpg. Does that plugged tube route back to here?

2 quick questions... 	:)-vfad-capped.jpg

If so it is fine or you can remove the tube and cap it like in the photo.

Also, your engine has to work a little harder in the cold. But, if you feel it's an issue, upgrade your plug/coils if you haven't already. Starting in the cold is where it hurts...
Not to mention, you are probably spinning your tires more often. All these things add up

How many miles are on your coils and plugs right now? Also it would not hurt to throw a can of BG44K or whatever other fuel injection cleaner you can get your hands on.

is that fuel injection cleaner the mazda zoom zoom thing for the carbon buildup ? i got it done this summer. And my sparkplugs have about 1500 miles, they are really new and the coils im not sure to be honest! im afraid they are the originals my car has 75 000 kms so like 45 000 miles so im just trying to save money for it but xmas is not

I was looking at th BHR ignition kit but i already have the same sparkplugs so i dont need the entire kit but i really dont fully understand the ignition system so im confussed about what other components i need to fully upgrade my car, do i just need spaek plug wires?
thanks again

Basically it is spark plugs, coils and plug wires. You want to change the spark plugs at 20K miles and coils and wires at 40~50K miles. If you go BHR coils I think they are good for the life of the engine (please correct me if I am wrong).

Since you changed your spark plugs recently do not worry about them and just change the coils and wires as soon as you got some $.

Here's my fuel chart for two years
https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...67&postcount=6

You can remove the line and cap the vacuum nipple at the UIM. It was for VFAD

Strange graph DB

How do you explain the wave shape for the mean line?
And wow .. look at some of those outliers

I don't know if you get winter gas where you are but here in NJ winter blend and summer blend for all gas stations apply.

winter gas always gets less mpg here. There are few articles about it, search it up.

The mean follows seasonal variation... the graph covers two years.
I never saw any significant step function which could be correlated to the winter gas switch in or out.
Mileage follows a predictable variation with season and driving style.

The outliers are from road trips, where the consumption is lower, to track days where average the consumption is crazy high... or snow storms/traffic.

Winter=colder
colder=more dense air
more dense air=more fuel needed to be added to meet commanded AFR
