Angry 1st gear whining when let go the gas

I just bought a 2009 RX-8 R3 with 6000 miles on it. this is my first manual car.

when I'm moving slowy in first gear, theres a whining sound as I let go the gas.

no sound when accelerating, just when decelerating using engine brake.

plz, help. thanks

In my opinion, that's not that unusual. However.............can't really think of a case where I'm actually decelerating in 1st gear very much if at all. Why would you really do that to any extent?

I noticed that when I was driving around in a parking lot

nothing when accelerating tho, gear goes in smoothly.

That's normal (as far as I know), all manual cars tend to whine in first gear at low speed. The only scenario where you'll ever really do this is in bumper to bumper traffic. I have an R3 also, she wines subtly if first gear in general, but you really hear it if you decelerate. Usually, I just put in the clutch and brake to a stop or to slow down rather than engine break to decelerate at such a low speed.

like when you let the clutch slip more when you rev high, I hear some kind chirping sound. dont think its the wheels spining tho.

Reverse is a straight cut gear instead of helically cut like the forward gears. Why the hell are you flooring it in reverse?

I floor it in reverse out of my parking spot every morning, it helps the engine warm up faster plus its really fun

OP, what you describe sounds normal to me.
I guess that kind of sound might be alarming to anyone who've never driven a manual transmission before.

fisrt gear whines for me too, I supose it must be normal since its been doing it since day 1. I think its the way the first gear is made , probably a bit wider than the other one for improve durability under stress, IMO anyway
