1 Thing that pissed me off today about the RX8

I am in my buddy's Mazda 3 sport and it's start to rain to my surprise the Windshield wipers start to go by themselves.. I asked him about that and he said "your cars new you must have over looked that you have the Auto-Wipers" We go to my house and check and Nope...

Why would Mazda put Auto-Wipers Rain Sensor feature in the Mazda-3 and Not in the RX8? Did they also put it in the Mazda-6? Are we the only ones missing out

A lot of sports coupes miss out on these luxury features. This is just one of those. Just be happy you're not rolling down your own windows.

Auto wipers ... that's just laziness! How hard is it to move my right hand a bit to flick the wiper controls? Waste of money to me.

Not the point.. my point is the Mazda-3 has them and we don't..

I had Auto-Wipes on my IS300 and they are very cool.. They would speed up and slow down based on the rain... start & stop automatic..

Yes they would be a waste of money..But if they are Stock"free" on the 3 they should be stock on the 8!

Feature like that is just another thing that can go wrong....and nothing is stock "free"..i'm sure it would have jacked the price of the 8 more by few hundred bucks for that feature.

It would be a waste of money, add another thing to malfunction, and add useless weight to a sports car. It would make sense in a sport sedan, and has some "cool factor, " but I wouldn't want it on an RX.

The Mazda3 is the newest car designed by Mazda, so it has all the latest technology. That's why it has rain-sensing wipers, navigation, etc. My new Mazda6 has no neither of those. The more expensive 6 does not have those, yet the 3 does - go figure!

One day people will be mad when they do not get autopilot in their sports car too.

The less fancy gadgets, the better in my book. One less piece of potentially expensive equipment to fail in 5-10 years....

Good point, nojooc.

For one, I don't drive my 8 in the rain, so I guess that feature would have been useless to me personally.

But I had this feature on my old 2000 Jetta and I actually did not like it. If it is at all the same type of sensor, you had to have your wipers on "Interval" for it to work first of all, and it really only worked well at higher speeds. I found that the wipers would wipe at such odd intervals that it was almost distracting. Sometimes it would wait too long, sometimes wipe too often.

It was somewhat akin to driving down the street and every so often having the passenger wave their hands in front of your face. I believe my subconscious prefers "knowing" when the wipers are gonig to move across my windshield.

Either way, I believe we are not missing this feature at all and to complain about it is somewhat amusing... must have been a slow news day (wait a min, didn't I just respond to this thread??? geez...) :p

I agree with MI_FamilyMan. I can see it as another technically cool thing that just ends up being annoying. I feel that way about the auto-dimming mirror - it doesn't work very well, and it's distracting. I think during my next scheduled maintenance I'll have them replace it with a normal mirror.

But auto-sensing wipers? Pfft, that's just beyond silly.

Auto wipers are dumb - but, what would have been nice is auto on headlights. It is pretty easy to sense if it is light or dark (old technology) and the reliability of semiconductors is probably better than a mechanical switch. I really like it when my other car leaves the lights on for me for 1 min so I can get my keys out and get in the house. I was pretty surprised that the 8 didn't have them.

If you worry about the weight of the car to that detail, then I think you should watch what you eat before you drive as well.

1 thing, wieght. If its not vital to the car then oh well. I don't need it so why would I want excess wieght in my sports car, if your like the luxury then cool, I think they should at least put it as an option to satisfy people who like leather in cars. (In a luxury car or SUV its great but I hate it in seats, makes me slide around).

The original post is in reality an expression of jealousy, not a dis on the RX-8. My buddy has it so I want it or I'm gonna stomp my feet. If you undestood what a sports car is about, you wouldn't give a hoot about having such a superflous feature. Get a life and grow up.

Just sell the 8 and get a 3.

Then you can get the nice 16 or 17inch wheels that we don't get either.

Umm.... why don't you just turn the auto dim off on the mirror? If I'm not mistaken you can press one of the buttons on the mirror and it won't auto dim.
