09 Satellite Antenna
Hmmm....well...I bought a 09 GT back in January and really didn't think much of the satellite radio antenna being a small black one mounted (magnet) on my trunk....until I started to look around....all the other 09 GTs have the antenna as a nice roof mounted deal (finnished to the color of the car/etc...you know...normal routine for new cars now)....so wtf is the deal?
Anyone else encounter this? I wonder if I can call and bitch to the dealership *picks up the phone*......

yea we were just talking about this. Mine is on the roof and his on the trunk. Also his XM caches the signal so it keeps playing for a bit while under an overpass or bridge, mine doesn't. Mine cuts out immediately when I go under an overpass or bridge.
I can only think of maybe different assembly plants.
And Farside, knowing you, you could call up the dealership and somehow get something out of them, like free service or spare tire or something. Such a swindler....

My '05 Shinka's stock Sirius black-colored antenna is [factory] mounted on the trunk lid, but my unit does cache a bit for some continued play when signal obstructed. Go figger.
It's like they stuck on XM unit in there one day and then switched it up to another the next. It must be the assembly plant. Check your VIN numbers to see where you were assembled. The 11th number, if assembled in Hiroshima, it will be a 0. Not sure about any other numbers, although I know there is another plant in Japan, one in Georgia and another in the states. Just can't remember the numbers/names.
If it is truly XM, then it does have to be installed by the dealer correct? Doesn't factory only come with Sirius?
XM vs Sirius is not just semantics when talking about satellite radio.

Same company but not the same service.
You have to pay extra for say the NHL games and Opie and Anthony if you have a Sirius subscription just like you have to pay extra for Howard Stern if you have an XM subscription. The "Best of" channels. My point is, if you have XM installed, the dealer did it with aftermarket parts. If you have Sirius, it may be from the factory. Mazda only comes with Sirius. If you're tuning in to 202 and getting Opie and Anthony, then you have XM...if they are on 197 or you can't get them at all, you have Sirius.
Many of the other channels have merged, though.
