Thumbs up '07 RX-8 vs '04 RX-8

Hey my heated seats actually get HOT now!!!

I wasn't so sure about this Sand interior at first, but it grew on me REAL fast.

Do I have more torque or different gear ratios? Because I used to be able to cruise in 6th gear only as slow as 42 MPH, but now I can drop down as slow as the mid 30's with no real bog-down kind of feeling. Feels more torquey.

My steering feels less sharp on the 07. I suppose it might just be that I'm driving the stock summer tires in 20-40 degree temps and its just not gripping as well. The steering is real good, just seems to not be as razor sharp as my 04 was.

6 Disc changer, yay my iPod really gives a flip about that...

Were the in-dash directional indicators always that yellowish-greenish color?

Other than the fear of the car being more easily stolen via radio transmitting device, I really love the convenience of never having to take my keys out of my pocket, to get in OR start the car. Plus leaving the car running while hoping out is that much easier.

When you're going ~40 MPH and your on a level road with no stop signs and red lights, and you can't go fast ;-) why bother wasting the extra gas in 4th gear.

The RF key is so cool I have thought of trading up. The bank on the other hand thinks my 05 is just right for me.

Not to mention wear and tear. RPM= Ruins Peoples Motors. Racers in competition short shift all the time.

I think it is a lot less pertinent to rotaries. There are no reciprocating parts and the big stuff (rotors) actually turn at 1/3 the speed of the main shaft. So while a 7500 RPM VTEC requires all sorts of vodoo, a 9000 RPM wankel is not even breaking a sweat. Pay for it in fuel, though.

None that I have noticed and none on paper. Although I suspect if I measured I'd get slightly better since I can use 6th gear a bit more with this car, over 5th gear.

I don't suspect it's very good for the transmission to be running 6th gear (which is an overdrive gear) at 40mph IMHO (although I'm just a novice at car mechanics) I've had an overdrive gear crack on a jeep wrangler from driving in overdrive at those speeds. 6th gear is for cruising at highway speeds, it's not even good for top-speed. Good MPG is all about consistancy.

Anyone feel free to correct me on this if I'm wrong.

That's cuz it's a jeep...

There's zero reason to not cruise in the highest gear that you can, aside from that WOT gets worse gas mileage per acceleration than mid throttle (runs richer at WOT.) When you're at really low RPMs, touching the gas even slightly can be effectively WOT. So, it's hard to manage the balance.

The overdrive gear is just that, a gear. The slower it's spinning, the happier.

Please define WOT?

WOT stands for Wide Open Throttle. However, it really means "when the throttle plate isn't limiting the inflow of air anymore" - i.e. when the manifold is at basically ambient, with no vacuum.

30-40mph in 6th seems like you'd almost be bogging the engine! I can see if your winding down to a stop, but to cruise like this seems strange to me, not to mention no torque whatsoever if you need it. 3rd or 4th tops is all that is necessary, and I highly doubt you saving much gas by staying in 6th.

I thought everyone knew that our engine loves the high rpm???

If by "loves" you mean "is more than happy to guzzle gas at", then sure.

If you're cruising, you're fine in whatever gear is the highest that'll work. If you need torque, that's what rotarygod gave you a shifter for.
