06 rx-8 mileage

I know combined mileage is around 21mpg. The rx-8 has, I believe, a 15.9gallon tank. How much do you guys generally get on a full tank? And how much do you guys generally pay for a full fill up in your area?

I get between 190 - 280 miles per tank. Usually I have almost all city driving and get about 210 miles.

Only 2500 miles thus far, but I've been getting around 17 mpg for local driving (suburbia) and around 23 mpg highway. I fill when the gage is 1/4 to 3/8, so distance between fills has been from 170 to 240 miles.

Last couple of fill-ups were for $2.79.9 per gallon. Really nice change from $3.50 or more a couple of weeks ago.

gas is 2.39 in michigan hahahah but those aren't bad mileage numbers for the rx-8 if you do a search you'll see that this has been disgussed a lot. Don't think your getting ripped or anything I got 12 mpg for my first tank and that was on 93.

I'm glad you brought this up Neil. What a refreshing topic! Nobody has dicussed fuel economy on this forum before. Thanks again. I'm pumped (no pun intended).

ROFL khtm. You been here too long. (j/j)
Anyway isnt it a good idea to fill up every 1/2 to 1/4 tank and no less to save the fuel pump from excess work? Had a fuel pump go out on me before and now I fill up at exactly 1/4 which happends to be 11 gallons almost even. I get about 200miles per 11 gallons average. I did get 305 on one tank highway driving 55mph. There wasnt a closer gas station so I had to push it.

My first full tank I got 307. Now I get about 270-280. I could have had 308 or 309 but then I would have been walking down the side of the road in uniform with a gas can looking like a moran going to get gas. I weighed my options and thought it was best to just pull in.

I usually get the warning light at around 200. The most miles before filling up was 258.5 - I got 19mpg on that tank filling 13.613 gallons. The most fuel I've filled is 14.286 gallons, but that was with worse mileage - 15.7 after going 223.7 miles. Best mileage I got was 20.5 (20.1 once, rest below 20); worst mileage 13.0!

About a month ago I got 350 miles. Cruise control at about 80 mph. I usually get 300+ miles on a full tank. First couple of years I rarely got to 300miles. I have 44,000 miles on my 8 now.

Over the life of my car (7200+ miles so far on a 2006 Galaxy Gray base) I have averaged 20.43 mpg. Gotta love Excel.

I have averaged 16-17 mpg on every fill up but one. I have a little over 1600 miles on it now and typically drive 95% city / suburb driving.

I'll get 300+ in all-highway driving.

17 City
23 Highway
10 Track

Interestingly enough, my instructor at Summit Point this weekend said his Miata also gets 10 mpg on the track.

I have an 06 MT GT fully loaded. I have just a hair under 7000 miles on it right now. My light usually comes on in the 290ish range although has come on at over 300 a couple times before, once at 329 miles!!! That tank gave me over 25 mpg (25.41 I think without having my mileage book in front of me). Otherwise, I average around 23 mpg in mixed driving. I paid $2.99 for premium on Monday.

If you drive in urban Chicago, this seems about right. I drive on the outskirts of Manhattan and I get anywhere between 180-200 for about a 13 gallon consumption (mild-mannered:~70%; spirited:~25%; rabid:~5%). I went twice into Manhattan and my mileage dipped below 180. It's those traffic lights. Rotaries don't really like to idle, I think. The highest mileage I got was ~260, which was a highway road trip, again driving mildly most of the time with spirited bursts occasionally to pass tractor trailers and SUVs. I use 93 octane.
