FL '04 Rx8 Need new Cat

Hello Everyone, been a way from the forum while but I have a question for everyone, I have my Velocity Red 04 with 118K miles on it, been having my CEL lit up for a while now, changed the plugs, still on, took it to Mazda yesterday, told me the CEL is from a bad Cat, I know RB has a test pipe for like $250, and their website says resonated test pipe coming soon, anyone know when that is going to be released, also is there a way to trcik the CEL to going off with the test pipe installed, (if anyone knows a link that this has been talked about, i'd much appreicate it) BTW 118K miles, still the origianl engine, anybody else have high mileage and the original engine?

you cant trick it, you can mask it with the COBB accessport...mine actually went off for a couple months then returned

There are a few ppl over 100k miles on their engine... contrary to popular belief.

I have an RB Dual Resonated midpipe and my CEL goes on every 100 miles or so, I just clear it with my iPhone and that's that.

It won't show up in the ECU at all.

It literally disables it. Completely. You could pass OBD2 inspection even.

They said your cat (no surprise since it is more expensive than a second 02). So the question first off is, are you sure it is the cat and not the second 02? There are tell-tale signs to use in the differentiation. And if it is the cat, the the choice is where you want to go catless or not. If you decide catless, then it is whether you decide to go remapping or not. Yes the maps will erase your ECU logging of your OBDII, but it cost money to get it. So, now the ball is in your court, the answers are there. good luck

Yeah I asked my mechanic sure its not the O2, he said the O2 was good, bad Cat, I trust him, same guy has been working on my car since i got it, guess I still have some homework to do, for right now I would just like to keep it running, not looking to get serious with mods until its all paid off in July, but I thnk I'm either going to buy a used Cat or the RB Test Pipe, as for remapping I just dont know yet, to be continued

well, if you want the car to run good until you decide, get your existing cat gutted. It is history anyways so why not? Your car will run a lot better and you will know what it is like to run catless. Running the car with a bad/clogged cat starves the engine of its power
