So yeah, looks like he'd be able to easily walk over you in a stock MT RX-8.

stock with CAI:

question

How is it that this car is dyno'ing so much higher then stated hp when the new systems of ratings by SAE is suppose to correct this?

Dude, a bugatti with a lighter driver or less gas in the tank will be even faster than that!

Damn man, I know the feeling. I remember when I first got my 8 and got whooped by a Honda Accord. Can you say PISSED. What's the fun of having a "sports" car when it ain't fast. Especially, when all of your friends, neighbors, co-workers, girlfriend.... talk about how fast your car is based on how much it costs and how it looks, not knowing that really they could do a faster 0-60 on a moped. Its a blow to any car guy's ego when he looses a race to something that he feels is below his car. I say drop $5k into it, get a Greddy turbo, Intx, exhaust, boost controller and a couple gauges. You won't be the fastest thing out there, but you'll definitely be respectable. I know I have a hard time finding anything that poses a challenge now-a-days.

You know if you just added a grappling hook launcher no car would ever get away from you again.

The Rx-8 isn't a car you get to impress street racers, it's a car you get because it's so much fun to drive.

How can this POS car smoke the 8 so bad?

So, do I finally grow up and realize that... well... I cant always be the fastest car on the road - or do I spend money and do something about it?

I mean, making my car go faster doesnt make me more of a man. Or solve world peace, or global pollution... But... Man that was so frustrating!

He was a retarded driver, but when it came to driving fast - straight - well, it worked, and it worked well. See, I wouldnt have a big problem if it was a Porsche. Or a BMW. Or something of quality. But a POS Cobalt!?!?

I could see him top off time and time again at roughly 117, where I started to get equal, and slowly catch up - but honestly, at that speed, you're going too fast to 'catch up'. 125 is where I call it quits, depending on visibility, time, conditions, etc.

******* Cobalts.
Best advice.....wipe your *** with the Colbat and his retarded owner. Have fun driving your car. Avoid hitting 125 mph to try and show up a Colbalt SS SX GT FI SE Turbo.....My wife is a trauma surgeon and see's kids/young adults paralyzed, brain dead, or dead all together on a daily basis after rapping their cars around trees, walls and other cars.

Remind yourself that your RX8 is much funner to drive, has superior styling and more brand awareness than the $10K chevy colbalt.

i dunno whats wrong with every one elses rx8s but i consider mine pretty quick once it gets above 5000 rpms, take off is slow but it pulls pretty well after that. Plus i love that scratch when i shift 1st to 2nd, and sometimes if i do it just right 2nd to 3rd.

I have a sneaking suspicion that a 20b swap will cost more than that.

to be honest, they are quite fast.. I was watching tuner challenge on SPEED Channel they had this huge project on the Cobalt SS, and if you do the right upgrades, that thing is a rocket, not to mention its made by chevy, chevy has some powerful motors.

I would stop caring about being dusted by lower end cars. At some point in time we will all be dusted by some civic, cobolt, or in my case mx-3. Be the better driver of a slower car not a crappy driver of a faster car. Now if you get dusted at the track that's a different story......

Yeah, but it's not exactly like we're curing cancer or solving world hunger here. We're a car forum. Most of us are probably at work right now anyways just looking for something to do to **** away the day. Even if all these threads are redundant it gives us something to do and laugh at and actually does help pound home the truisms of the RX-8. Maybe with all these redundant threads someone who's considering purchasing an 8 will actually have it sink in that the 8 has particular characteristics that might not suit certain people. And then they'll know -- and knowing is half the battle (the other half being bombs and things of that nature).

Right. Just be sure you are on the inside at the first corner. Don't want him taking you out when he loses it. (On the track, of course.)

Got a circle of friends who are car guys/girl, though I may be the biggest gear head in the group. Currently, between us we have a boxster, a 330 coupe, G35 sedan, coupe and 350Z (all Nissans are autos), a 300C AWD, a new Mustang GT convertable, and a Neuspeed chipped prev. gen GTI.

When we "play", all are usually even, though the GT usually beats all. But whoever pulls ahead is usually the first to get the jump, or sometimes it depends on the speed that we start vs. the gearing of whatever car - i.e. 90 to 100 in the 8 is especially slow. This is the case with our group of cars, but obviously wouldn't be if they owned C6's, 911's, STI's, etc.

Point is, two many schmucks think they can floor their 8 at whatever rpm and expect to pull on someone, or think it can catch up if someone else gets on the throttle first in a reasonably powerful car. I used to have a co-worker with one of the first RX8's and I remember pulling on her in the Passat I was driving! Later I learned she always drove one gear too high.

So yeah, the 8 may not be a rocket, but it's not the slug many here suggest.

Here in New Jersey, there are plenty of on-ramps. One near my house is a two lane, 180° on ramp. the road goes from one lane, into two lanes for the on-ramp cause its normally bumper to bumper, and then merges back in to one lane before merging with the highway. every once in a while I hit the ramp late at night with minimal traffic. Its always interesting to pass someone on an on-ramp

there is allways a faster car! I find it fun to make a car faster. one reason why i got the 8.Its a great handleing car but a fun car to work on. do the right things and tune it right. You will def. be good to go and keep up with the 350 class. Just takes time and money. Enjoy your 8 and app. what it is. And like many said in here if u dont like it trade it in and get something else.

Go drive one before you make that assumption.
