I've been in the Saint Petersburg area for 2 years now, and all I can say is there is no contest compared to NJ drivers. I haven't had any problems at all, but in NJ you would have close calls almost every single time you got into the car.

Also, having been in 3 car accidents, the only thing I've learned is that you always lose money. I lost over $1500 on my first car, which lasted less than a month before a guy totaled it. That car was only worth $8500.

 

In the winter aren't most of the NJ drivers in SoFla anyway?

 

They have a very distinct driving style up there. I think the rule of thumb in Jersey is anything goes, as long as you do it QUICKLY. You can make all sorts of illegal driving activity and no one minds. You can cut people off, you can go on the shoulders to get around cars who are turning, and no one bats an eyelid. But if you do something, illegal or not, and you do it slowly, everyone honks at you.

 

Sounds fun... at least if everyone is on the same page the chaos is somewhat organized.

 

Sorry to hear about your 8.

I understand that seniors need to get around too, but I do think that once you've reached your.... 60th birthday, you should have to re-new your license annually (written and ESPECIALLY the driving exam). I think that people who have been driving for almost a HALF a CENTURY, have probably picked up some bad habits, and even if they didn't, they need their eyesight and reflexes checked, and make sure they are aware of the current "rules of the road".

I am very observant when I drive and I instinctively avoid BLUE hairs (not punk rockers, the old ladies) and old guys who wear hats (especially Fedoras) in their vehicles.

i was comming back from myrtle beach yesterday and crusing around 70mph when we hit a traffic jam out side of wilimington .the left lane almost came to a stop everyone was trying too get in the right lane .when i finally got up to see what the problem was, it was a 60ish yr old man .he was driving and reading a novel at the same time with his cruise on 45mph.they should have taken his *** to jail then too the old folks home .SPEED DOESN'T KILL ,LACK OF SPEED KILLS.

 

Ouch, sorry to hear of your loss puma. Good to hear that you're physically alright. I remember you talking about how excited you were and trying to convince your father about the finer points of the car. I hope everything turns out in your favor. Which is sounds like it should.

i agree that old people (65+) need to be retested at least every other year. i was hit by an old couple from cali that were pulling a 5th wheel. lucky i was driving a truck. FYI if ever in san antonio tx stay away from the I-10 - 1604 interchange :D

 

ok i got the police report today and it says hes completley at fault so now i have the choice of whos insurance is gonna pay for it.
so heres my game plan.

I get his insurance to fix my car to new spec or claim it totaled. I then try selling that car and get the old man to buy me a brand new 1. Im hoping for a totaled and he better shell out.

 

depending on how bad your car was damaged ,frame ,ect. you can buy your car back at a hell of a deal. fix it up &put some cash in your pocket.

We're all going to age. You don't know the circumstances, but I think you can safely assume their was no intent of malice.

At the age of 87, my Grandmother (who once drove trucks for the RAF, at night, with the lights out because of the war) decided to give up driving. She hadn't hurt anyone. Her rationale was that she didn't trust her feet to be fast enough on the pedals, and she couldn't live with herself if something happened.

Maybe this incident will force the gentleman involved into a similar revelation.

I know it sucks, but you're fine. Vent all you need. In the end, though, a little kindness and goodwill will ultimately help.

yah adrien that was even uncalled for cuz did u hear about how i got out of the car and starting screaming at him or how i siad i hate u old man i hate u, NO you didnt read that cuz i stayed calm asked him if he was alright and all i talked to was teh cops. so dont just assume things ok flame thrower off. and gosh darn i said the pics are to big instant message me and ill send them right over.

yah i just came back in from a short block drive and to run the engine **** is way fucked up. a controll arm is prolly way bent cuz when i drive the car goes up then down then up. And it idled way high when i first started it at like 2k when i reve the engine i hear the weird sound from teh engine or the exauhst like somthing metal is spinning against something else then stopping once im off the pedal and **** isnide is all bent. im angered. but fun to hear it rev high.

I dont mean to flame anyone but IT SUCKS TO THINK OF Suing for injury when you are alright. It is thinking like that that which gets people into stealing, selling drugs and doing all sorts of ilegal activities.

YOU SHULD GET ONLY WHAT YOU DESERVE, not what you scamm some poor fool out of.

As for magixpuma I am glad that you where civil and not went balistic on the old f@rt, It showes that you are very mature, and that's a good thing. Be diligent and get that inshurance claim in as soon as posible. Get the highest possible estimate and if posible more than one and get the actual value of your car minus depreciation. Remember that you must prove to the insurance company that the car costs more to fix than what it's actualy worth. (They will make their own investigation but it will help your case if you get the proof)

Also, Is your car paid for or is it financed? I ask this because if the car is financed then the inshurance will pay the bank for the remainder of the debt and you will only get the reminder of the value of the car. In that case the old man should pay you for the difference between what the inshurance paid you and what you have already put in to the debt so when you get your new 8 you only pay what you originaly owed. He shuldn't have to buy you a new car and pay for it in full if you had only done 4 payments on it.

hey outlaw, I really hope you are kidding about this. It's hard to tell with some people, but it's exactly that mentality that screws the rest of us. I'm a dentist, and some guy with totally bombed out teeth came in to a dentist at my office and claimed he had broken a tooth on an egg roll, and the chinese restaurant was going to pay for him to have a root canal and a crown done to fix it. The guys teeth would have broken off if he had bitten into a marshmallow, and he is trying to sue the restaurant for damages, etc... Makes me sick.

 

Why would i want a broken sports car with only 1700 miles on it? I was gonna drive this car till teh wheels fell off.{litterally} I bought this car know it wasnt abused or been in a accident. So he basically ruined my "brand New" car. it has so few miles i could still legally sell it to a dealer ship and they can sell it as new."if it wasnt in a accident."
