Well gathered up everything to fab the exhaust. Cutting up this BHR mid pipe cause it doesn’t fit with my floor mods. Add a v band to the end and another v band before the spin tech muffler. That way if I don’t like it I can swap out for something else. Oh and I’ll prob add a bellows to the downpipe just for some movement.

I might have suggested to sell the midpipe instead and put together your own with a larger, higher flowing (and longer too adding more sound control) spiral baffle canister. Am in the process of putting one together for an NA 13B PP engine to test and see if it can meet track sound compliance without a power loss. The baffle canister is 4” diameter x 30” long plus the conical end cap & turndown.

Cool but 3 inch is just fine.
|
I’m referring to the smallish resonator, not the pipe size.
larger canister diameter and 2.5x longer = less flow restriction and lower sound level https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...ecc17774d.jpeg |
It will be just fine. Sound level is irrelevant once the wastegate dumps to atmosphere.
|
duplicate post, stupid internet.
|
Are you going to be monitoring EGT's or backpressure?
Also if you want to try to sell that BHR midpipe, I have just the resonator sitting around. Have no need for it, can sell for a reasonable price. |

I have used that resonator... it works well. Trying to get a rotary to meet most track sound regulations isn't easy. Usually requires multiple resonators and mufflers that often don't last very long.
Anything with packing is basically useless... maybe the stainless stuff lasts a bit longer Best muffler is a turbo 😏 but an atmospheric dump isnt quiet |
Well maybe it was my mistake to think that you won’t be driving around with the wastegate open all the time, and as you can see despite it being brought up in my own and other threads there are still some people on here not aware of such things, and also there are several others who've done it and can attest to their own experience.
Collectively, the forum is the place to share and expand the RX8 experience. Which thank you for your own contributions. There’s much in this thread that will contribute to others. Keep up the good work. :) though maybe for me the S369SX-E was too big to be an effective muffler :suspect: . |
Team giving compliments; rarity. Appreciate.
We keep going and if it fails and doesn't work ill be the first to admit. Pretty sure everything will be just fine at my 500hp mark. The 400hp street port version works like a charm; minus being on an old microtech. |
It was nice speaking directly with you by phone the other night. I hope you can appreciate the sincerity of my thoughts going forward and we can focus more on modifying RX8s for better performance rather than any particular person or perceived personalities. :)

I found the weight limit of the trunk is 2 cut off wheels...Took me a few days before I actually got the balls to cut this out. It needs some welding but that'll be done little later.
The middle section I did not trim up more. I'm waiting on my bead roller to get here from summit so I can roll a piece of sheet metal to mimic factory stamped shapes. I still have a lot of trimming inside the trunk to make it nice and squared and no more radius edges. Once I set the new cover plate in I will cut slits and bend them up to flow. Will that look good? who knows but its a vision I have so why not give it a try. I will add 2 1x1 box under for stiffness and for attachment point to the muffler. I have another muffler on the way just because this is too skinny and looks out of place with all the big open room. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...93ca1cdb4f.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...4f7911d3cd.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...1bb5d3dd9b.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...57dbb30642.jpg |
got a pic of the cutout piece? I might want to buy it to fix the big hole in mine that the PO did.

Santa came early. Xcessive LIM showed up today. Granted I have a custom subframe that requires you to weld ears to the factory subframe. But here’s a before and after. I could remove more material off the Xcessive to gain more room. After the holidays do a little port matching and waiting on the Full Function fuel rail. Unbolt it all again. Stick everything on my REW street port motor for car #2 and build fuel lines; much easier on in the middle of the garage than in the car.
Picture time! https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...788e0f3f1.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...1cf5c95ea.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...897ab0a5c.jpeg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...5e77c2a42.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...296cbb6eb.jpeg |
Here is after I put the upper intake manifold back on. You can see the extra material between lower and upper I could mill off. I’m going to need to reclock my charge pipe again cause it’s not squared anymore but whatever that’s life.

Well I put the gas tank and diff back in the car so I can start the exhaust. Had to trim a bit of the billet diff cover to fit. Such as such.
Back to it after this holidays with family. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...a4e3b027e.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...9d1c3a6f2.jpeg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...99b5521a3.jpeg |
So I'm not the best bead roller and it took me a few attempts before getting to "this is good enough". My roller doesn't have a deep enough throat to do this all in one pass. So I had to flip flop dies, do things backwards, upside down or some tom foolery to make it work. I ran out of day light so ill be back at it tomorrow for more trimming/mig welding. The aft section looks gapped but that's because I left the rear structure long and not trimmed to level with the trunk deck. Ill cut slits and bend the rest into my panel. Give a cleaner transition look. Under will be some 1x1 box section to give the panel structure if I place groceries in the back and 2 spots for muffler and exhaust hangers to be attached.

Realized this wasn’t posted here but new Greddy muffler instead of the tiny Spintech; since I decided to go center exit.
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx8...29b123e6b.jpeg |
good move, that tiny muffler wasn’t going to do anything but clog up the entire works
now I see where my misunderstanding was on the pic you sent me earlier today, good job on sealing off the trunk well, the formed sheet is very professional looking. . |
The original idea was to use the spin tech muffler cause Dondo’s FD is the same engine builder, port work and muffler. Liked the way it sounded. But since I changed the look of the rear it was too small to suit the big open area.
