Hey everyone, I haven't updated the thread in a long time. I had quite a big problem since I kept the stock water radiator position. Fabricating the intercooler piping proved to be a huge pain in the ass, especially since the the outlets from the intercooler are on the lower side of the tanks. I also had to make my own oil filter relocation setup since the clutch pump is very close to the block. Oh and the hardest part for me(harder than actually installing the engine and basically everything else) was constructing the casing for the stock ecu, the haltech, and the other two boxes(power steering) to all fit in one, and in a much smaller casing. Just a tip, make your turbo kit so that it goes around this little detail. I'll post some pics of the finished pieces soon!

bhop 03-14-2010 03:26 PM

Saucey, save yourself the trouble and do not use the RX-8 tranny for 600hp+.

Fate710 03-28-2010 12:46 AM

When I do my 13B-rew swap I will probably leave the stock tranny in there, and see how it likes 450rwhp. If it breaks, I've got a couple of FD tranny's laying around.

Finally done, here are a couple of pics. The swap took a long time due to my working hours 10+hrs a day. If anyone has any questions just ask, I have plenty of pics.

Haven't really driven it yet, it's a freshly rebuilt engine and I'm just finishing up with the minor details-fan wiring(working stock ecu controls right now which I don't like), hell I still have the stock exhaust on which is also coming off this week. That's why I haven't driven it outside yet.

hornbm 04-09-2010 02:29 AM

^^ 13B-RE swapped rx8 with stock exhaust. Hilarious!

Funny isn't it? My car was totally stock before I did the transplant. Right now it has a stock cat and rear exhuast-I made the downpipe on the car using ss 3inch 90degree bends The only problem is that the nearest (good with a tig welder and that can make a 76mm/3inch)exhaust shop is about 80miles from where I live, so I'll probably use road service to transport it there. Like I said I just finished installing it.

JustinsFDpoweredFC 04-23-2010 11:08 PM

No the RE is from the Japanese only Cosmo which came with the twin turbo two rotor motor or the bigger twin turbo 3 rotor or (20B). The secont gen Rx7 turbo motor is the 13bT and came single turbo. the Difference between the RE and REW of the 3rd Gen Rx7 is the intake ports are bigger on the RE than the REW and the exahust ports are bigger on the REW then the RE

Damn I can't believe I haven't seen this until now... Everything looks great and the custom work is impressive. The exhaust looks either really bad ass or begging for leaks, I can't tell. But yeah, we really need a video. I was thinking about doing this swap since I am at 70+ miles now... this or 20b idk yet. But good luck with the finishing touches!

dznutzuk 06-18-2010 07:45 AM

Bad ass, yup. Leaks, no everything is professionally TIG welded. I'll post a video of the car running when it's tuned.

czar 06-18-2010 01:56 PM

awesome swap, its one my friend has been trying to convince me to do.

if i dont get my turbo from mm, i may small claims him and go this route

Finally made a new oil pan, the stock 13bre sits way too low to the ground. I used a stock RX8(which is very shallow, but a very clever idea with the oil reservoir) and a 13BRE and mated them together. I braze welded it and it came out really good and no leaks!

8upbad 07-12-2010 12:39 AM

Good job man. That looks awesome.

Finally heat wrapped+silicon heat wrapped my manifold. Too much under the hood temperatures.

Pretty good answer to the problem. Looks good.
How about a status update on how the cars runnig and performing?

dznutzuk 08-02-2010 04:53 AM

Sorry guys but I haven't driven the car in a long time, plus I severely dislocated might right shoulder so I'll be out until mid September :(

Car is running pretty good, funnily enough I'm getting the same gas mileage as I did with the bone stock RX8. I'm not a big fan of the stock 6speed tranny-1st,2nd,3rd are useless. I have to get my FD transmission in it and see how it does.

firecran 12-10-2010 11:35 AM

This is what i want to do to mine someday.

Great job!

It will do just fine...Speaking from experience ofcoarse :naughty:

JustinsFDpoweredFC 12-10-2010 09:02 PM

You pulled some pretty nice Hp out of your set up and you have to love that your eatting up any more gas.

so can we get a final mod list or a final list of details on your setup? What turbo and manifold, what engine management, what injectors, etc

Well if you read all the pages of the thread you'll see that the manifold was custom made with 2inch ss bends, the turbo was a KKK K28/29. I'm using a older haltech e6k since I had it leftover from my previous FD. I'm using the classical setup of 550cc primaries and 1680cc secondaries. But read over the pages and look at the photos and you'll pretty much get the idea of what went on. :)

have you considered swapping in FD ring and pinion gears for lower ratios? Would improve gas mileage too....

olddragger 12-20-2011 07:02 PM

just use the auto diff which is a 3.90

Lower Intake Manifold - Who made it?

I know this is a forever long ago thread but what LIM did you finally end up going with? What company makes it and where can it be purchased?

Thanks,
Jeremy
