Yellow???

Yellow???
Ya so I have been looking frfantically for a green or black with Nav and GT only.I don't like the spoiler and 140 for a little chrome is ridiculous anad the other options, I can live without.
Anyways, a dealer near me has a Yellow one with GT, Nav, Accent and Spoiler. He said he would take off the price or the accents and spoiler if I was interrested for 500 over invoice - 2500 lease rebate. Two questions:
1. How's everyone like the yellow? Why did Mazda get rid of it for 05?
2. Is that a good price?

No that is not a good price for an 04. They are now selling under invoice. He's playing a numbers game on you. The yellow isn't selling too well is my guess why its dropped in 05 models. Keep plugging away at the dealer.Check out Edmunds.com and see what a comparable car is selling for in your area. They do a nice job with it. I got my 04 $400 over invoice but many others lately have been under invoice. The 05s are going about $500 over invoice. He tricked you by telling you he would eat the accents by moving up the price over invoice. Don't let the invoice value full you. That's not what the dealer paid for it same as we don't buy the car for the sticker price. The $2,500 lease rebate is true however. Keep in mind that a lease is like keeping a car in tip top shape. When you turn it in you need to put on new tires and not have any door dings on the car. Mazda gives you a little card picture thing of what an allowable tolerance for a ding is before you need to fix it. If you turn the car in without fixing the dings or has used worn tires on it, the dealer will charge you for those. 100% mark up too. Pure profit for the dealer.

Make the dealer find the color you want. Mine had to go out of state to get mine a month ago. If the dealer wants to deal only what is on his lot, I would go to another dealership. If you belong to a credit union you can use a car broker to find the car you want with those options. They all use a nation wide database that shows all the available cars.

Don't settle for something you dont really want. this will be your car for the next few years. If you want a specific color, package or whatever, do not let the salesmen force you into buying something else. the car you want is out there just keep looking.
If you are even a little bit unsure then that is not the car you are looking for.
BTW I do own a yellow, I ordered it 8 months before they were released, I would not trade the color or car for anything else. just my opinion, this is my 4th yellow vehicle. I am glad Mazda made yellow for 2004

2. Seems to be an OK price if it were $500 *under* invoice, but if it's still around at the end of the month you'll likely be able to get an even better price since they'll be desperate to get rid of an '04 before the next fiscal period.

These are all good points, but don't forget to mention to the dealer that winter is coming, and unless you live where it doesn't snow, the RX-8 won't be selling at all when the white stuff is on the ground

Where do you live? The Edmunds thing doesn't really take region into account a whole lot. I.E. a RX-8 in Wisconsin in December isn't worth nearly as much as an RX-8 in Cali at the same time.

Personally at this time of year, and where you live, I wouldn't pay over invoice for a car thats a year old. Have you checked into maybe getting one used that had some miles on it to give yourself a basis for comparing?

Not sure if I like it, however I am not asking for opinion. I am asking becuse I know they scrapped the color and was wondering if there were any discounts for the unpopular color. I like that it stands out.

Well, if there were 12 yellows on their lot and none of the other colors, then you would have an awesome shot at a great deal. I got a blue and am very happy with my color, but the yellow does look really great.

Yellow is a great color and I never tire of it, but it's not for everyone. Like others have said, you should get the color you want.
I believe Mazda had always planned yellow as a special first model year run color. They did exactly that before with the 3rd gen RX-7. And I believe yellow could only be had the first year of the original 1st gen RX-7 as well. If I recall correctly, yellow was only available on the Miata during '92 or '93 too. Mazda seems to have a thing about making yellow a special limited run color.

Unfortunately most of the dealers around here either have 2 or 3 on the lot with my config. or they are real ****** and ripoffs and have like 10 in my config. I'm not willing to deal with scammers for a better selection.

Get the color you like -- unless they're offering you some amazing deal on another color (which this dealer most definitely is not). If you're willing to pay $50 over invoice for an 04, go to CarsDirect.com and they'll find exactly your color and options for invoice price.
