Question Is it worth to save money for 1,5 Years?

Hi There

I´m planning to get a RX-8 in about 1 and a half year. Then I would have saved the Money for the half car. I want to pay the other half by rates.
I really felt in love with it and drove it already 3 times for testing. It´s amazing! I own a 14-year old Mazda 626. So its gonna be a big improvment to get an 8.
But is it worth to save more than a year for just the half car?
I just read here posts of people who seem to buy an 8 with no real financial problems.
How long did you save your money for the RX-8?

Thanks for replys and sorry for that english :D

I leaased mine.....that way I'm protected if the car has problems over the next couple of years. If the car stays problem free and holds its value, I'll just buy it out. I was also able to get into this car without blowing big dough.

How long it takes you to save up depends on how much money you make. I saved up 15k in three months but I didn't use it all when I leased. I put down about half of that.

My parents bought mine for me. It was sort of a graduation present. I'm thinking about trading my Auto 8 for another because when i got mine it was 30,400$ w/o nav and 6 disc cd changer. I've been reading the news paper and they have the SAME exact car with the nav and 6 disc cd changer for 21,000$. i guess they're trying to get rid of all the 04's. do you guys think i should trade it in? will i have to pay anything extra? i should talk wiht the dealership first huh.

I didn't save any money for this car. My dad and I walked into the dealership, and walked out with an RX-8. If you have good credit, then you can do such things. I have to make payments, but whether I had money saved up or not, I'm still going to be making payments.

I saved for a year and bought mine with cash. Did the same with my wife's MVP. I am already saving for my next toy. Probably a new body style cobra.. :-)

If I had saved some money, I would've gone home with the car I wanted, a Z06 Corvette. Now that the C6 is out, I might have two dreams in one. :D

if you want credit, put as much of that car on credit as you can. meanwhile save up your money and after a year drop in as much cash as you can to lower the interest you pay out.

I paid cash for a lot of stuff when I joined the work force, only to find out that doesn't help your credit at all. It takes credit to build credit, and you're going to be able to get a jump start at it with this.

edit: i just noticed you're in germany... not sure if this applies over there.

I didn't save any money specifically for the car. We have savings, but we just traded in my 02 Celica and didn't put any cash money down. We got a 4.25% rate from our credit union (60 months). We qualified for the 0% that Mazda was offering, but the term was 24 months, so the payments would have been about $1100/month and my husband wasn't comfortable with that as it would mean that we were unable to keep building our savings at the rate we have been.

Anyway, if the 8 is what you want, I don't see anything wrong with saving your money for over a year to get it. I think it's worth it.

ps. I honneymooned in Germany (Oberstaufen). Beautifull!

I think it's worth it to save for a year and a half if that is what it will take. Don't let emotions drive you into debt.
