Wish me luck!

I go shopping tomorrow. Wish me luck! My goal is either $1,000 below invoice on an 04 or $400 over invoice on an 05. The reason I'd go for an 05 is color (no red 04's available with my package and options).

Should I tell the dealer upfront I want to negotiate the price on both an 04 and an 05? Or should I do one first?

Good luck buddy!! There are plenty of late model 04's out there. The changes on the 05 are not significant enough for me to cough up the extra $1400!!

What colour, spec, tranny etc are you after?

I will be in the exact same boat here very shortly.

Also, I agree very much with your assesment regarding the difference in price between the 04 and 05. I would pay around $1000.00 more for the 05, certainly not more....but it really comes down to whether I can find an 04 with the options that I want....and perhaps more importantly, that I DONT want (I don't want to pay for unnecessary items like the appearance package since I will be getting the MS body kit).

My guess is that I will wind up having to order an 05 to get exactly what I want.

I'm back, and I report... no success. Things got off on the wrong foot early when my salesman didn't show up for his 10 a.m. appointment, didn't have the car on the lot we discussed over the phone, and said he could get it from another lot with the same owner but only for invoice price, not for the $700 below invoice we discussed. He said holdbacks only apply to vehicles on that particular lot.

So I went home to check if I had hay in my hair, and another dealer offered me $1,400 below invoice over the phone on... a Silver AT base. I said give $1,400 below invoice off a Silver MT with Sport and I'll take it. I even found the car for him at another dealer, but he said he's only selling existing inventory, which I thought was weird.

Anyway, I'm still looking. Is it true that there are no holdbacks on 05's?

Also, a piece of negotiating info I learned, there's $1,000 manufacturer to dealer cash called marketing support currently available, at least in the S.F. Bay Area. Go to edmunds.com and look at incentives. So even at invoice, the dealer makes a $1,500 profit ($1,000 marketing support + $500 holdback).
