Angry What would you do?

Last Saturday I dragged my g/f out to the dealer to get her approval on the 8. I knew more about the car than the salesman (thanks to this forum), and finally settled on the one for me. Tit grey, GT, 6MT, Nav, appearance pkg + 6 CD. I got a quote of invoice + 500. I think I got a good deal, especially because they had to locate the vehicle. The salesman then asked if I minded if the car had some miles on it, because he would have to go pick it up from another dealer. I told him I would mind, because I don't want someone beating the **** out of my new baby for a couple hundred miles (or whatever the distance). We went over this about three times, finally arriving at the conclusion that he would call me when they located the vehicle, and we would go pick it up together, so I could make sure he didn't beat it up.

Here's the kicker - the message on my answering machine today, and it went something like this - your new rx-8 is here, loaded like you wanted it, it's beautiful. Come on over and pick it up whenever you can. WTF??

I've left a message for my salesman to call me back and am eagerly awaiting his call, but my question is - what do I do about this? I'm thinking about asking them to throw on the strakes free of charge, or I might just walk out on the deal. Exactly how important is the break in? Is 50 miles a big deal? 100mi? 200mi? The first thing I'm going to do is figure out the distance between the two dealerships and see if he took the long road, if you know what I mean.

BTW, my salesman told me he owns a '92 Supra, and doesn't drive with the a/c on because it slows the car. Aaaaaahhhhhhhh!

If it's under 50 miles.. no biggy.. Just be sure to check out the exteriors and interiors before you accept like any car. But 50 miles is pretty good... at about 100+ miles, ask for some strakes or Rotary front and back...

I agree, I could live with 50 miles but much more than that I might be worried about some clown wanting to here the 9K buzzer.

I just talked to the salesd1ck. 342 miles. He said it was the only one on the East coast with the options I wanted, and he had to go pick it up from Baltimore, MD (I live in NJ). He also said that he called me before he went to pick it up, as per our agreement (he didn't; I checked my caller ID). Get this - he said when he called me and got no answer, his boss said to go pick it up anyway. I'm quite sure that he didn't speak one word of truth while on the phone today. Since I got off the phone with him, I've already located the exact vehicle I wanted through Mazda's website, spoke with the dealer, and put a deposit on the car (23 miles).

Long story short - Don't buy from Sansone Mazda on Route 1 in NJ.

About to say he lied. My dealer (faulkner mazda) has been very nice with me letting me test drive when I get the urge; I've done it three times in four months. And the last one I test drove was exactly that. Faulkner is located in north Philly, but definitely closer to you than Baltimore.

Thanks for the heads up, 8pex. Just checked it out. I've been finding myself running as many errands as possible but I'm still under 400 miles. I didn't know they reccomended 2000 miles of break-in (sigh). More errands.
