Train Derailed?

A salesman at Bommorito Mazda in South St. Louis told me on Friday night that a train carrying RX-8's derailed last week and 50+ RX-8's were damaged. Has anyone else heard anything about this, or is this just typical sales B.S. trying to create demand?

That would explain why I woke up screaming... perhaps the nightmare was true.

i heard of a train derailment in montana last week, my company had some freight on one of the cars but it wasn't one of the ones damaged. however this train was west bound(to oregon) and i don't know if there was an east bound train involved or not.

Validation

Rail transport is regulated very similarly to avaiation and therefore all mishaps/accidents are logged and reported. The incident that occured last week can be research and validated via a number of Federal Government sites.

I've done a lot of searching on the web for any news of this and I've found nothing. Looks like either another case of a greatly misinformed salesperson, or someone trying to inflate the value of their cars.

Maybe these were the cars that sunk with the ship off the coast of Japan that was reported back a few weeks ago.

well...i took a look at NTSB.gov and found no record of a train derailment last week. as a matter of fact, their most recent report is dated may 28th 2002.

however, i found 2 links to the same AP article here and here. if this is the train accident u guys are referring to i don't think there's much to worry about.

as zoom said, the train was west bound. i'm sure the derailment could've caused delays to east bound traffic but there's no mention of any automobiles being damaged.

My dealer in Omaha also confirmed the train derailment. He called to say that my RX-8 is finally in KC and will the leaving via truck TOMORROW!!!!

I brought up the subject of the train derailment and he said that he had heard from regional Mazda rep that there was a train incident that totalled 8 RX-8's and damaged about 25 others (he didn't remember the exact numbers) He said that it was a train to KC and most of cars were for MO delivery. He said my car was on the train that left right after the derailed train otherwise who knows when I would be getting a car

I wonder if MNAO has the VINs for the wrecked cars? I would certainly want to know if mine was "slightly" damaged and repaired.

Calm down ELX13, we don't know that yours was on that train.

Hey Gang
Haven't talked to you in a while. Got a call from someone that gave me the scoop on the derailment. Only one railcar sustained damage, the others did not leave the tracks. The damaged vehicles were: 12 RX8's, 2 Mazdaspeed Protege's and one Protege LX. All these cars were bound for Kansas City and Omaha dealers. Not good, but not as bad as it could have been! Don't have access to the Vins of the RX8's that were involved and hope none of them were any of yours.

dammit jonalan...I"LL CUTCHA!!

it would definitely be a miracle if MNAO had that information...hmmm, let's try it...

edit: just got off the phone with MNAO. here's a direct quote, "i hadn't heard of anything like that happening." he asked where i got my info and i told him about this thread. he then puts me on hold to go ask his manager (and co-workers), "no one here has heard anything like that." i reply with, "hmmm, you'd think u guys would know before us huh?" he says, "yeah, thanks for the info. i'm gonna check on that some more."

on a more positive note he said my car should be here august 11th! maybe it wasn't wrecked after all jonalan!

one more thing...

no one answered me regarding my previous post about the articles i found.

is that the train accident you're talking about?

after reading budaman's post it seems unlikely...considering the articles i referrenced were about a train headed east-bound from chicago to tacoma.

if not, can anyone find any information that pertains to "our" train derailment?

My car was delivered today -- BUT I can't pick it up til tomorrow -- anyway here is what I found out from the regional Mazda rep.

Confirmed train incident in Wyoming. 8 RX-8's were damaged -- he had the VIN's so it can be checked out if it was yours. All 8 will be repaired and sold as "not new" vehicles. 8 new cars have been reassigned to the customers who lost the 8 damaged vehicles (new VIN's assigned) -- identical to damaged 8's -- will be a delay in delivery obviously.

Cars were enroute to KC for delivery in MO and NE.
