Too high for insurance ???

The lowest price I could find [and am currently paying] was 400 a month, payed in installments of 1200 every 3 months. I am 19, have had my license for over 3 years, and have 2 speeding tickets for around 25+/- mph over. 4 points on my license, no accidents of any kind, and no previously insured vehicles.

The specs of my car are in my sig. Am I paying too much or what ? I shopped around as much as I could and this seems to be the lowest I could find. Does anybody have any suggestions ?

I am in FL btw.

Under 20 + 2 tickets + Sports Car =

Just it see how much the RX-8 is costing you try getting a quote on a Mini-Van or Base Neon.

^^^ what he said, but i'd actually change that to under 25 + yada yada yada.

you can possibly lower your payments by reducing your coverage and raising your deductibles, but that can lead to its own issues. basically, you're going to get bent over for the next few years...and the rx8 has one of the cheaper insurance rates in regards to sports cars.

I'm in mass, which has fairly high insurance and pay 120 per month for 10 months ( we are on a yearly contract). 400 a month would seriously make me ride a bike to work...

You're having the same problem that I had. No matter what my driving history was, being 21 and never being insured, ANYTHING that I wanted to drive was going to be 400+ dollars. I looked at everything from GT Mustangs, 4 door Accords, 4 door civic, brand new Sunfire...I was just hosed and couldn't get out of it. Unfortunately, that is normal for your insurance to cost that much with 500 comp/collis deductibles.

The good news is that speeding tickets on average inflate your premium by about 20 dollars for each month (on a 6 month policy) per ticket. When you're lookin at 400 dollars, 20 bucks ain't all that much.

There's nothing that you can do. One of the reasons why I got my RX8 was becuase insurance is cheaper for new cars. I was paying 400 a month for an 02 Eclipse RS (4cly). I had some problems with it, and I'd figured it be better to flip my insurance and car payments around. So now I'm paying over 400 a month for my car but my insurance will be 150 a month once I switch carriers.

For what it is, the RX8 isn't expensive to insure. It has 4 doors, a tiny little engine, 6 air bags, and a theft deterrent device. From an insurers standpoint, it's treated similar to a family car.

I have much empathy for you, cuz I was there. Just don't get caught speeding and take it up the *** with these payments....or trade in your baby and get a minivan.

Wow thanks for that reply man. I feel much better now, knowing that I am not the only one. Its okay, even if every dollar I make goes towards owning this car I love it enough to deal with it. Funny though, I am younger now, not making as much money as I may some day, yet, the cost of living seems to be more expensive.

Thanks again man

Ouch. Guess it pays to be 32. Geico, NJ = $1050 a year to drive my Shinka Rx-8. Includes safety and multi car discounts.... I would consider a used sports car that you can buy cash so you only need collision insurance and not full coverage.

What I hated so much was talking to people about insurance. The convo would typical proceed as follows...
Them - omg my insurance is soo high!
Me - *acting concerned and sincere* How high is it?
Them - 1 hundred and seventy five dollars, I can't believe this ****
Me - .......*angerdly thinks to himself*(this muthafucka can't be serious, make me wanna slap a ho).....
Me - oh, that isn't so bad, at least your is cheaper than mine
Them - How much do you pay?
Me - 4 hundred and 17 dollars a month
Them - ...!!!!!.....
Me - *sarcastically* Yea...so, I guess it isn't that bad, right?
Them - I'm sorry; I had no idea. Things will get better once you get to 25
Me - *thinks*(**** you, you *****) Yea...yea...

I'm sure you had a few of those convo's already

It's you, not the car. I'm 22 almost 23 with 1 accident, no tickets on my record and pay 140/mo full coverage on my 1 week old 05 RX8 sport 6spd and a beater car combined. My insurance actually came DOWN after I switched from a 97 BMW M3 sedan 5spd to the RX8.

Try and get some coverage under your parents, put your name on some posas primary and the RX8 as a secondary driver that should help out a lot.

sounds fair .. my first insurance at 20 was 1800 for 6 mos on a new car without prior insurance or accidents/tickets .. then went down to 1400 or 1200 and kept going down since .. key word as with everything else shop around

and what i think goes without saying, avoid tickets/duis/accidents etc .. i had plenty of tickets but outside of those that were from other states i kept my record clean and things worked quiet ok for me

Well ****, apparently if you have a single policy for more than one vehicle, you cannot adjust the deductible for only one car. My family members do not want to adjust their deductibles.

See all most posts about my rock dent and Progressive and you will run from them for sure!!!!!

I am dumping them this week. I was paying $1102 for six months with full coverage and $100/$250 deductible.

I switched to Mutual of Enumclaw (regional thing) and an now paying $760 for six months with the same coverage although the rental coverage is better.

I'm 25. No tickets or accidents. Got my license Dec. 2005.

I'm gonna chime in on his behalf. With his age, it's going to be even worse for him to get his own policy.

Also....Dro, does your bank require that you have 500/500 deductibles on your policy?

Like CosmosPower said, get on your parents insurance for a couple years, at least until you can get the points rotated off (depending on if your state allows it). Yes it sucks, and yes you will probably get in a lot of trouble with mom and dad if you get another ticket while riding on their coverage (hint - get a radar detector). But when you hit 25, then you can breathe easier.

I pay around ~$850/6mo for RX8 and Mazda3. I'm 24 my Wife is 23, both no tickets and no at fault accidents, and no tickets on record.

Insurance is through Costco/Ameriprise, they where around $200 cheaper than anyone else.
