Thank you!

I just wanted to say thank you for all the posts and information in this section. I just got a 05 sports package for $25,600- $1000 (college grad and gerber rebates) for a grand total of $24,600! (5.2 % financing for 72 months)

I couldn't have done it without the threads posted here and the gerber rebate was amazing.

One question, I got talked into purchasing some extended warranties...I know that dealer warranties are pretty bad but I just wanted to throw out some #s and see if they are truly a bad deal ( i have 30 days to cancel w/o paying any fees)

Gap protection: $595
MPP extended warranty (6 yrs/60,000): $1285
Executive Care scheduled maintenace (3 yrs/ 36,000): $500

Anyway, if i could get some feedback on these coverages, that'd be great!

P.S. Whoever started the gerber rebate thread...I think I owe you a steak dinner! Thanks!!!

The extended warranty price seems pretty fair. As to whether it's necessary or practical, is another matter. You should check into the details of the plan, like if you have to pay a deductible to initiate a claim. The scheduled maintenance plan, I am unfamiliar with, but I assume it pays for all of your scheduled maintenance for up to 3 years. You will probably end up spending a little more than $500 for maintenance in 3 yr/36,000 miles. It is just a matter of whether you would rather pay for your maintenance as it comes up, or pay for it for the next 6 years with interest. Personally, I'd probably drop that, but it may be more convenient for you to do it that way. As for the gap insurance, it seems quite a bit high to me. I don't know how you financed it, but I get gap insurance through the loan with my credit union for about $250, so $600 seems steep. Gap insurance is definitely a good idea, especially since your are drawing your financing out for so long, but you might shop around and see if it is possible to purchase it somewhere else for less.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice. From what the guy told me at the dealership, the extended warranty has no deductible but like you said, is it really necessary in conjunction w/ the factory warranty? According to the warranty information, it covers everything deemed "excess wear and care" not covered by the original warranty. I'm probably going to drop the maitenance care and gap coverage. I just figured I'd put it down in case it was a decent deal and do a little research after the fact. Thanks again.
