so what can I get for 15 g's
I'm looking to buy a used 8, I'd like you guys to tell me what you think I can get for around $15,000 out the door. It has to be a manual and have hopefully less than 50,0000 miles. and it has to have at least traction control, other than that I don't care about extras. You think I could talk a guy down from 17 or 18 to 15?.

18 to 15 no way. 17 to 15 is luck. For 15 (assuming you get a half decent deal) I'd say you could get an 04/05. It's possible you may find one with 50k miles but for $15k I'd bet against it. I don't know though, here in MA we rape each other on prices. As crazy as it sounds, it seems there are better deals in CA so you may luck out. Finding a MT and Trac Con will be easy. Doesn't sound like you're asking for much as long as it's an 8. You'll get one.

Don't forget the license fees and "use" tax; you're probably looking at 13.5 - 14 just for the car.

Just make sure someone goes with you who is a mechanic and knows how to test drive used cars, and what to look for.
Nothing worse than buying a used car you have to sink money into.

shopping tip--
look for a used RX8 at a NON-mazda dealer. LIke a toyota dealer, or acura dealer...
if you find THAT - then you KNOW they took it in trade on a car and you KNOW they raped the last guy on it.
if kbb.com says "trade in" is 15k, they probablyu paid 11-12k...maybe 13k...
bottom line is if the car was a TRADE IN - they just want to get the hell rid of it, not make money off it..and in todays market, the RX8 is NOT a fast moving item.
we here may like them, but consider the Acura or Toyota dealer trying to move a 2005 RX8... no one comes on their lot looking for one, they took it in trade to close a deal on a new TL, and now they have htis rotary car that they will wind up wholesaling.
you can go in there, offer them a tad over wholesale and they might just give it to you to be done with it.
I bought my last car that way. It had a sticker on the window that said $36500. I offered $31k. an hour later they said "ok".
so yes, you can talk them down on trade ins.
i think you should look for RX8s priced around 20k and start offering 15k. go loook, test drive it, if you like it offer 15k. say that's all you have. tell them it's non negotiable. be police, but be honest. that's all you have. if they say no, thank them for their time, leave your number, and go to the next one.
if none of those work, then look at the ones that are 18-20k.... eventually you will find someone hard up enough that they will take it.
some private party seller who has his RX8 free and clear, who CAN't sell it and needs the frickin money b/c his ARM just reset and he is about to lose his f**ing house will take 15k NOW versus holding out for Maybe getting 18k in a month or two. believe me.
he housing market is going down the $hitter and there will be deals like you don't believe on sports cars over the next year. all those impulse purchase third cars, like boxsters, Vettes, EVos, and other toy cars will be going on the auction block in droves as the ARMS reset and people are losing their houses and going bankrupt.
mark my words.
