So I finally got my VIN# the hard way
Hi,
I have to share this FWIW.
Ordered and put a deposit down on my RX8 July 24th. I was told the VIN number was emminent.
Reading this forum, I learnt about Mazda's offer, if one decides to keep the car.
I called my dealer on more than ome occasion about this and to find out my VIN#. They said ,as late as last week, that the VIN# still wasn't assigned yet. I am scheduled for late Oct, early Nov. delivery.
As my dealer seemed someowhat clueless and only wanted to reasure me that I would be part of those who would get the free maintenance and $500, I decided to call MAZDA RX8 customer service directly, thinking that I might miss out on this if I didn't do something B4 10/1. They couldn't find my order in the system. Surprise, surpise!
Well I nicely told them to call the dealer and straighten this out as someone took my deposit
Called RX8 Cust. service this week, after they had called the dealer. Apparently someone at the dealer had keyed in my name and my town and zip code incorrectly. Somehow they couldn't type in Port Washington correctly. (Quick now, who was our first president?).
Anyway, today, via e-mail from Mazda, I got my VIN# and a confirmation that my car was built on 9/19 and that another letter is on its way.
Now I wonder if the dealer is up to speed on this as well????
Titanium GT 6MT MP3 Black/Chapparel with strakes, accents and mud guards fore and aft on order.
BTW: Does the VIN# tell me anything about the car other than it has been built?

Im in the same boat as u claude4. I ordered mine in early august and I called my dealer a few days ago to ask for the VIN # and he told me that it hadnt been assigned yet. According to my dealer, only the transmission had been installed....Fearing not making the Oct 1 deadline, I called Mazda Customer Service as well. One of the representatives their told me to leave a "note" saying that I havent gotten my VIN # yet. Wonder if this will work...

takahashi j,
I e-mailed my contact at Mazda RX8 Cust. Service asking about the Oct 1st date and if it is a drop dead date for one to accept the offer to those who keep the car or if we have more time to respond.
When I hear, you will hear....

HA! Guys thats nothing. This is my story; I called Clarita at NAMO on 9/16 after I hadn't gotten any letter. So we talk and I discover that im not anywhere in the system. I give a call to my Dealer and find out that nor are any other customers of the dealership. So at this point I’ve save the dealer tens of thousands of dollars, but I doubt I’ll be treated as considerately ($). Oddly enough my dealer calls today to see if I have gotten my letters yet. I haven't but I wasn't concerned because this was all documented and I figured, hey if I get a 500 dollar debit card without signing anything I could complain at later date about the HP issue if it turns out for the worse. Not the case though, I don't have a working fax at home so I have to go to work where she has faxed me the free maintenance and $500 debit card letter pay 2 bucks (for the fax) and have it postdated b4 Oct. 1.

Well I didn't get any further response from Mazda about Oct 1 being a drop dead date for answering back if one keeps the car, however I did call my dealer to make sure that they, we and Mazda are on the same page.
I do not feel that Oct 1 is a date to recon with for thiose who are keeping their cars as long as they have some communication on recoord as I have.
All together now: How does one spell Port Washington?
I can't wait for my 8!
