Should I contact the owner?

Look, I may be nitpicking at this point so I need an outside opinion.

I live in Stockton, so when it came time to buy an RX8, I naturally looked to the only dealership within 40 miles or so, Stockton Mazda. Salesperson didn't know anything about the car, I had to argue with him to convince him that Touring automatically came with Bose. But, that was no big deal. Gave me a test drive, was nice. Now, I had a parent with me because this was my first brand new car.

I was 21 at the time.

When he found out that I would be financing the car myself, he would no longer help me, he told me to go get the loan first - basically don't waste my time you're not going to get the loan. Little did he know that I was working as a manager at a major national bank at the age of 21.

2nd ding.

I ended up buying my car in Sacramento. However, 1 week later driving on a Saturday, I found I couldn't shift into 6th gear. The service department closes at 4:00 on Saturday. I pull in at 4:10, and look around the dealership...don't see anyone, can't see through the tinted glass. I peer around for a good 5 minutes trying to find someone. Finally I find the door, and see about 7-10 sales reps just staring at me with a cold look. They had been watching me the whole time, doing nothing. Included among them is the sales rep I worked with, who knew I went elsewhere to get my vehicle. When I asked if a service tech might still be hanging around to take 30 seconds to look at my car, I recieved nothing but a curt, cold reply to come back Monday.

3rd ding.

Service department leaves the oil cap off after an oil change. Service dept takes over 5 hours after promising a much shorter time.

4th ding.

I'm now selling my car. I called the dealership to see if they will buy a car at trade-in, even if I am not purchasing a vehicle. They said depends on the vehicle, I describe mine, he says yes, I'll give you 19.5 for it. I say, politely, "Really, because I see on the NADA website that it lists it as 24.750." In a nasty tone, he tells me to call NADA to see if they'll buy it!

I have never dealt with such rude people in my life. I have no idea what their problem is with me. I always deal with people politely and kindly, and when they come back with this type of crap it makes that more angry because of it.

So...let it be? Or should the owner know?

Opinions are like......

In the first case, you went shopping for the car, took a successful test drive, but didn't have your financing arranged - though why that would be a road block if you manage a bank......?

In the second case, you bought elsewhere. Probably a poor idea if you know you will be going to the local guy for service......as you found out when you rolled in after closing, they don't owe you anything.

Then lastly, you phone a dealer you have never dealt with successfully, and ask him for an offer on your car. Then you get insulted when he wants to make a decent 25% on the deal....if you don't want to take his offer, don't, but to argue about it is just insane.

Sure, tell the owner, I'm sure he could use a chuckle.

Chances are the treatment you received was a reflection OF the OWNER.

Sell the car outright. The dealership there owes you nothing. You are not a customer and they probably want to keep it that way.

I see how you are mad because they were a holes to you but.....being in sales myself at one point in my life, I would not have opened the door to you either if you came rolling in 10 min after I closed shop.

By expecting them to do that for you, you aren't respecting thier time. You bought nothing from them, I can see why they are salty. Just because you buy a Mazda doesn't mean ALL of Mazda has to bend over backwards for you.

To me, it sounds like you were still fuming from the comment the original salesman said to you. Believe me, I'm not making excuses for bad custumer service but we are talking about the American worker....
