Selling the 7 and getting an 8?

Hello Everyone,

A while back I was looking at buying an 8, when a 94 rx7 came into my life and I've been driving it for about a year now. It's a great car no doubt. The car has been giving me more trouble of late, it is in the shop right now. Once it gets fixed I am contemplating getting a used rx8.

What I need to figure out is if I can get a used rx8, preferably 05 or newer, for what I could sell the rx7 for. I really don't want to spend any money on the transaction unless spending a little more will get me my perfect rx8. Is this a possibility, or am I kidding my self?

The rx7 info:

54,000 miles
touring
Everything works, or will once it is out of the shop
I have all of the maintenance papers
The exterior is very good other than 2 scratches on the passenger side from the previous owner
The interior in good to very good condition
The only things I have modified on the car: an alpine stereo, but I can return it to stock if needed. A front strut bar, again can be removed. a boost gauge, can be removed with out damaging the car. Finally I replaced the catted downpipe with a catless downpipe because the stock one had died.

i think you could definitely get it done for no or little money. there might be some one who would do a straight up trade. try a for trade ad.

ps: got any pictures? is your car green?

Clean retail of 1994 Mazda RX7 w/ 54,000 miles = $14800.

You might be able to get a used 2005-2006 RX8 with lower miles for an even trade.

Personally, I would keep the FD in pristine condition. I won't trade, though, cause I need the back seat. Well, I'll trade you my '93 Miata for the FD. PM me if you're interested.

Oh DSC for sure, after seeing that video of dsc in the rain.

It's about a mile from my house, so I might go check it out tomorrow. I'll let you know

Well I checked out that RX8. It was slow to start up, had to crank for a couple of seconds. The car seems to shift, and accelerate good. It does have dsc. The only worry is that going on the used car lot's test drive loop, I was smelling gas the whole time, I had vents blowing, and the windows down. Is this something that I should worry about? Or is it because the car had trouble starting (partial flood?)

I would keep it, that thing is a cult classic and a nice color. That car just beat the new Nissan GTR in a touge battle. (although highly modded)

I would love to keep it as a weekend car, but it's not in the cards right now. I had the bright idea of quitting my job and going back to school! The 8 is going to fit the bill of what I can get away with for a car.
