Pull the trigger on 2010 RX-8?
Hey, lots of threads on trying to make a choice...but I have to add another one. First post, but thanks for all the posts. They really help a prospective RX-8 buyer. I am thinking of trading in a 2005 Subaru Outback (base 2.5i AT) that I have had for 6 years on a 2010 Silver RX-8 Sport. My Subaru has been solid and has 58,000 miles on it, but I really miss not having a sports car...so possibly flexing to the 4 seat RX-8 option with my 2 kids. I am very meticulous about taking car of my vehicles and fully understand (or so I think) what I am getting into with the TLC of a rotary.
Right now, the offer is 24,500 (1,500 under invoice) from Mazda, and my particular dealer throws in a lifetime warranty from a private insurance company on top of the factory powertrain one (covers same stuff unlimited life/miles).
Practical/Reliable Outback or more debt with a Sports Car & Lifetime Warranty?
BTW, I would rather be rocking my F1 sticker on an RX-8 over an Outback right now...
Thanks for any replies with some good reasoning!

I have and really enjoy the engine/6-speed combination. I love the high revs and am a road racing enthusiast rather than a drag racer...so the minimal torque does not bother me.
If this does not work out, I would probably opt for a used S2000 in a year or so to fill the sports car want.
To me, the S and 8 have the top suspensions for <30K. So, a new RX-8 now as a daily driver with possible kids riding along every once in awhile or a used S2000 later on as a 3rd car.

It sounds like you're the target audience for the RX-8 design, as in wanting a true sports car, but need a back seat. The car makes perfect sense. Where else are you going to find a 9k redline, slick 6 speed and this kind of handling?
When I bought our 8, I was originally looking at Miatas. My wife wanted a back seat for the dog. There was only one choice. We're very happy with our RX-8, though my wife does find the sound a 9K a little scary (think driving Miss Daisy).

Well, my daily commute enjoyment had it's first day of exponential growth. This car rocks and really fits what I was looking for in a car. For others on the fence...GET ONE!! They can be had for relatively good prices now before more people catch on that it's days are numbered.
Had dealer throw in a factory black/grey cover as the final clincher. Time to start posting elsewhere now...thanks again.
