Ok, Ive been searching the net for over an hour now and still havent come up with all the answers I need. Not even the mazda site says anything about the shinka. My wife wants an rx8 and Im trying to find out the difference between the gt and the shinka. I know about the suspension upgrades and accents and wheels and I know the 05 only came in black cherry with tan seats, but can someone tell me what color combonations come with the 06 and 07 shinkas. And are these exclusive to the shinka. I know about the alcantra and leather seats and bose, but what else is different? And is the body styling any different? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh yeah one more thing, how is the auto with the paddles? My wife isnt that great at stick and Im wondering is the auto ok or is it crap? I know you loose some ponies, but other than that is it a good shifting auto?

I'm not too sure but I think its at least four colors: Coppery Red, Velocity Red, Whitewater Pearl, and Black. No styling differences except minor badging on the doorsill, B-pillar, etc.

I just bought a 2006 6AT Touring and the new auto is fine by me. I wasn't looking forward to the cluch action of the manual but wanted some sense of "fun" with the auto stick. The auto is not like any other that I have driven. It shifts like a manual - what I mean is that you can tell when it shifts by the engine sound and slight drop in rpm's. A lot of autos just seem to glide along. The autostick allows you to rev up before shifting or keep the revs hign for more spirited driving. I can't wait to get out of the break in period and really try the straight line acceleration (yeahI know it's suppose to suck but it beats the pick-up and mini van I've been driving!)

Get the manual if you are an old man like me. Other wise your wife shouldn't have any trouble learning to drive the stick.

Are those colors available for the other rx8s? Doesnt it come with fender strakes or something too? And what do those look like? Im just trying to figure out why the shinka is a 5-6 thousand dollar upgrade.

the fender strakes are a dealer accessory add-on.. and yes those colors are available for the other rx-8s.. the shinka is a 5-6k upgrade beacuse of the reasons you mentioned... the better suspension system, the leather and alcantra interior, the bose upgrades and all that stuff.. the accents ont he b-pillars and the polished aluminum chrome looking wheels...the body styling is the same as the other rx-8s however though.. but it is the suspension / interior / wheels that really make it the more expensive upgrade.. plus.. mazda didnt make too many shinkas in production so they are also more rare

my 8 is an 06 shinka. i got it in brilliant black not in the black cherry. i got it just as a package. the shinka package also comes with a year of Sirius satellite radio. as for the auto. i used to have an 04 rx8 with auto and i loved it. it was very fun to drive without the hassle of having to shift. i just got a good deal on this car and made the switch to manual. im not sure if mazda is offering the shinka package on 07s or not. i could be wrong but the dealer said to me that the 06s were the last year for them. good luck and hope to see u in the club soon.

ok, so what color combos do you get with the alcantra seats? were the 05s tan leather with alcantra? is there white leather and alcantra?

The only shinka in 05 was the Black cherry, I believe.

The 06 came in Brilliant Black Clearcoat, Whitwater Pearl Mica,Galaxy Gray Mica, and the Copper Red Mica (the Copper Red's are only made as Shinkas). The Phantom Blue may also have been added later in the year, but not sure if that is correct.

You could get the Sand Leather/Alcantara in all 4 colors of cars. But where you could get other color/style seats in the Black, White, and Gray...the Copper Red only came with the Sand Leather/Alcantara.

ok, so let me get this straight. That "sand" color, is that the same as the tan in the 05? is it closer to white? or is white another color? the copper red only came with the "sand color"?

It is not white! It is sand (more cream color). Same as the 05.

You can get 5 different styles of seats. Black cloth, Black leather, Black w/Red Leather, Black w/Chaparral (light brown) leather, or Sand leather w/Alcantara. The Black, White & Gray cars come with the option of any of the five styles of seats, the Copper Red comes with only Sand leather/Alcantara seats.

The Shinka is apparently not being produced in 07. But all the features (including the Sand leather/Alcantara seats) can be added on as options on the 07. If either the Copper Red 06 or Black Cherry 05 are the color of car you want you'll have to buy those years models. Those car colors won't be available for the 2007 models.

Ok, so the only alcantra they have is the sand color? That sucks. Id really like to see the black leather with some red alcantra. Thanks for your help guys. I have another couple of questions maybe someone can answer for me though. I am a big mod person and like to do performance upgrades on cars and I know my wife would like to upgrade as well. How well do the rx8s take to performance upgrades? How much boost can the rotary handle? Can the auto tranny hold up to heavy horsepower? What are the best "basic" upgrades for the rx8? Im not concerned too much about suspension more on the lines of more power. Thanks guys

There are some power upgrades for the RX8, not alot compared to say STIs or Civics. But there are some definite options out there...lighter flywheels, several turbo kits are now available (I think Greddy is the most widely used one so far). I think your best option if you want more power is the Greddy turbo kit, I believe it cost somewhere in the region of $4k-$5k (I could be wrong) and will bump up the engine a pretty good bit (50+ hp?). Being that the car has been around for a few years now, I'd expect to see more power upgrades being available in the near future since used RX8s are really starting to grow in number.

Well I know that much, but im looking more as in how do these things hold up to HEAVY modifications. How much boost it can handle without internal modification. And one more question about the color combos, is the alcantra in the 05 shinka??? it looks to me that its all tan leather. Did the alcantra not arrive until the 06 shinka?

You are correct on the 05 and 06 shinka seats. All tan 05...Alcantara in 06.
