Oh No! Test drive results.

After all the reading about this car I have read, nobody mentioned how much headroom you dont have! Im only 5'10.5 but my head brushes the top when I try to sit straight, and when I sit in the back, My head hits the top. Grrr!

It looks like for 30k, if the headroom is explainable, I can get the GT a/t with the goodies that I want. Or, the Shanka for 32k with most the goodies, including a tape player... wich is a turnoff. NO dvd nav in either...
but i tell you, that head room issue is a BIG issue that people need to mention!

Try adjusting the seat. That or you've got one freakishly long torso. I'm 6'3" and can sit in an RX-8 with a moonroof no problem at all. My head is certainly not brushing the top, let alone hitting it. Even with a helmet on it would be rather tight, but it could still be done. Can certainly be done without the moonroof there.

Lower the seat cushion (it goes both forward/back AND up/down with the power seats which both the GT and the Shinka have)

yep, it's been discussed here before. You must have big hair...I'm over 6'1" and had an 8 with sunroof and still didn't brush the top. Did you bother adjusting the seat all the way down?

Your signature is just cracking me up.

Put the seat lower. It should be fine.

I used to work with a guy who had to be 7' tall and he was ALL torso. I mean, his legs were about the same length as mine and I'm only 6' tall!! It was one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen.

In case you care I think sunroofs are made of metal or something opaque whereas moonroofs are made of glass (something you can see through).

I think this has to do with the fact that Ra the Sun God can't see through lead -- like Superman.

Well I would use a search feature if.... I knew that was a problem and to look for it, and second, the search feature was not functioning for me today. THe guy i took a test drive with said I had to pump the level downward untill the seat was all the way down, but it never moved so he said it was at the lowest.... I never pumped a handle before so it smells like BS salesperson, but I did move the lever down and the seat did not move anywhere. I will ask the new dealer im going to tomorrow about that, cause no way am i taller then you guys! I figured it was due to the japanese small size, but oh well.... we will see tomorrow. Thanks.

The other way around sunroofs just tilt and are glass.

Moonroofs used to be metal and open we got the best of both.

Zeblien, I am 6' 1" and what works good for me is dropping the seat all the way down, tilting the seat back a little. All else fails get some racing seats as they are lower to the floor

A better idea is not to buy an automatic.

There was this guy in my school who was 7'6" and he drove a GTI! He had the seat all the way back but he still had to bend his knees when he drove. It was quite funny to see, I wish I had taken pictures.

This is simple: your seat was too high. Lowering it in a Shinka or GT has nothing to do with pumping a handle (that's something you do on your own time). There's an "L" shaped button you need to push downwards to lower the seat bottom. The front and rear of the seat bottom adjust independently. This will not be an issue for you, you were just misinformed. I can tell you definitively that you will fit just fine with a moonroof.

Ok, so we were both sorta right:

Variations have become the norm and often combine the features of the Sun and Moon types into a single device. It is not uncommon to see tinted glass that can retract fully like a traditional sun roof, remain closed like a traditional moon roof, or tilt to allow for airflow.
But, generally on newer cars you see openings with glass that can be retracted. They're generally called moon roofs even if though apparently historically moon roofs didn't move.

It all depends on how close you sit to the steering wheel. It's not just old ladies that like to hug the wheel while driving......maybe this guy likes to sit real close which might make headroom an issue.

For those that like to drive this way I feel I must warn you......your airbag will kill you in an accident. You should have no less than 12 inches between your chest and the steering wheel.
