new '04...thoughts?

I've been looking only half seriously at getting an RX8 because until recently, my parents have not been willing to help me buy one...for whatever reason, though, they seem to have taken something of an interest recently. So I got quotes for a new '8 with sport and appearance package that all hovered around 27.5, but the dealership closest to me still has an '04...the same nordic green I've been driving past when coming home from work for the past month. Loaded with GT and Nav, they're selling it for 22.9k. I don't know how many miles are on it, but I assume they use it for test drives since it is often the only one I see on the lot. Is this a fair price assuming it might have ballpark of 100 miles on it? Maybe more? I was hoping to get the Gerber rebate as well. Any thoughts? This car might be my only possibility for getting a car since it's new and massively cheap...

Sounds like a decent deal to me- I got my 04 at the end of April this year - last one on the lot- had 600 miles on it - paid 23 - (sticker was 31.5) they also gave me a great deal on my trade in. It has everything but the Navigation-

I was a little concerned about the miles - but I figure it's under warranty for a few years and 50k miles- what the heck - I love it. - I've had no issues so far-

I don't trust all dealers- but they claim my car was never abused- they don't let younger people take it without a salesperson in the car. The dealership I go to here in Iowa has been great -- so far.

you should be able to get a 2004 for 6.5 K to 9 K below sticker price.

I bought a 6MT sport+appearance+spare tire for just over 23K a few months ago. They had some on the lot that I could have picked up for cheaper but they were all red or yellow...

If that car is a 6MT with GT and Nav, and if it is new than 22.9K sounds like a good deal.

i just went and looked at it and drove it. 509 miles, touring package (not gt), appearance and wing. the guy wouldnt discuss pricing with me since I mentioned that it would be in my parents' company name...but that specific dealer is having a june sale, and there would be a cash rebate on the car. i would also hope to haggle for maintenance or something since it probably wasnt broken in properly. can I also ask for the gerber rebate? i filled out the form but havent gotten a response...any help or suggestions? thanks.

so the lowest offer I am getting for this vehicle is 25,900. Isn't that invoice? What do I need to do to get lower...ideally 24k since that is what I told them?

Again it's an '04, 500 miles and a test driver at the dealer, 6MT, Touring, Wing, Appearance and Nav in Nordic Green. MSRP is 32,200, invoice is 29,970 and I believe the '04's have a $4000 rebate? How on earth can this dealer expect invoice on a car that is almost two model years old? Any help or advice would be appreciated.

They don't like to lose money on the sale. In theory they paid invoice, then got the $4,000 from Mazda. There is also a hold back which on Mazda is 2% of the BASE MSRP. So on a 6mt car is $543 (or something, I don't have my notes handy - take the MSRP before options X 0.02). That is the bottom line: invoice - holdback - $4,000. Any less and the lose money on the sale, but do get the car off the lot.

Where are you located and are you willing to travel to get a car? I know of a few 04s sitting waiting on new owners - and others on the board probably do as well.

potentially yes...the question is price. the only things i want are 6mt, appearance and sport package. i dont necessarily need the nav, wing or a higher package...i just want to pay about 24k or less. im potentially willing to travel, so if you can point me in the right direction id really appreciate it. thanks.

Most of the left over cars tend to be loaded up (GT and NAV) or at least GT - high dollar cars they could not sell otherwise.

I know where there is a silver GT with some other options (appearance, changer, etc) and 3 red GTs w/NAV are. The silver you can get for invoice - $4,000 - hold back. The red ones are invoice - most of $4,000.
