PA Need advice-Shinka Special

Looking for some wisdom from all you out there in RX land about the purchase of a 2006 Shinka special edition coupe. Copper Red beauty with 16,000 miles on it offered at a non mazda dealer (via a trade in) for $17,000. Does this sound like a fair price? Sounds like a lot of improvements have been made leading up to the 2006 models. How does it handle winter driving? Will principly be used for dailey highway commute of 60 miles round trip and evening appointments traveling 30-60 miles round trip. Would appreciate everyones advice.

That price sounds about right. If they're asking $17000 and you can talk them down or get them to throw in an extended warranty, it'd be a great deal.

Talk them down to $15,000. You can do it! Also make sure it has all the recalls/TSB's done to it.

Ended up getting a better deal in Mass. Flew up from Pa. to purchase a 2006 Copper Red Shinka AT, 13,000 miles for 15,993.

To answer the winter driving question. They do great if you have the right tires on. I keep a set of blizzaks on 17X7" rims for winter driving. I’ve gone through many snow storms without a slip. Including one that we counted over 100 cars/trucks in the ditch over a 75 mile stretch.

It’s not likely you have the original tires on the car at 13K but make sure what you have is rated for snow (if you get any).

Why would that be? I've got 21k on my '05 OEM Dunlop's (4th season) and have plenty more to get me thru this Summer.

Looks like you got a good deal. The Copper Red Shinka is very nice - almost as nice as my BCM Shinka.

Enjoy!

Original Dunlop summer tires still have plenty of wear left . 18 inch rims. Looking to get another set of rims and snow tires. Can they be 17 inch or must they be 18?

They actually should be 17" for dedicated snow tire in Winter use. The 17's are less expensive (just get steel; no point in really nice rims in sand/salt/snow) and they facilitate a taller tire sidewall, which is what you want for snow driving.

Actually Black Cherry Mica.

The '09 Mazda6 comes in Black Cherry Metallic.

True, I just turned over 29K but have had snows the last 2 winters. I'm guessing that puts the OEM Brigstones at about 24K. I just keep hearing on the board about people not getting over 8K on them. I just figured I don't do burnouts or slide through corners. I don't baby the car either so not sure why mine have lasted this long (not complaining though!).

For winter shoes I went with the 17x7 rims. The taller sidwall helps and the narrower the tire the better it can cut through snow. You can't get smalller than 17"'s on though (look at my photo album for an example).

I'm not sure where you're located but the tire section of the board has some great discussions about what to get.

Actually, I've been sliding thru turns more so I can wear out my OEM's and get some Toyo T1R's.
