Need Advice on Purchase
Hey everybody! I've been looking for the perfect rx8 to buy for a few months now and I think I found it. I have also already done extensively done my research on rx8s. So the car in question is a 05 black cherry shinka with 80kmiles.
Appearance is in immaculate condition inside and out
laser jammer???
10 inch JL sub
Front and rear MAZDASPEED strut tower bars
MAZDASPEED cold air intake
Heavy duty clutch
Legal window tint all around and front visor tint
It has lifetime satellite radio that is installed in the car but I also installed iPod integration so the satellite radio doesn't work but I can easily just switch it back if you'd like
Mazdaspeed exhaust tips
25mm spacers
Purple forged lug nuts to match with car (also have stock lug nuts too with key locks)
Ipod intergration to work with steering wheel controls and also have aux cable too
factory chrome wheels
I really like it except it has more miles than I would like on it. If I get im gonna ask for a compression test and carfax. THe price is firm at 11200. Overpriced or okay?

All the aftermarket parts mean nothing for the price. If you like how it is set up then you can factor them in but in reality when you mod a car you can sometimes decrease the value because chances are slim the buyer will have the same tastes as you. You also never know if the mods were done half-assed or not. The performance mods are a nice thing though(strut bar and CAI) since those you probably would add yourself.
Has it ever had the engine replaced? Is it manual or automatic? I am not sure what the going rate for a shinka but around 10k seems reasonable if the engine is in great shape. If it is getting close to failing then you should be able to get it for much cheaper than that.

I HATE SPEEDBUMPS!
The price seems firm, and it all depends on the compression test results. Xexok already sums it up for you. Anyway, did you take any pics of the car your thinking of buying?

Yea I agree on what you got to say and the mazdaspeed CAI was something I was planning to get anyways which costs about $450 from what I saw. Also I was gonna ask the owner to get a compression test on it, if I did decide to get it and it is a 6speed.
What are some good or acceptable numbers from a compression test, and about how much would it cost?
Thanks for the all the advice!

It should cost you between 100 and 150 for the test, see if the seller will pay for it or split it with you at least.
Make sure when you get the test done that the engine is hot and also make sure they give you a piece of paper that shows 6 different compression readings(3 per rotor) with 2 different rpm readings. Where you live is a factor in the compression produced, if you are in very high elevation your compression can be affected. Just post the results here but the dealership will tell you if it failed or not and if it does then have the owner get a new engine put in under the 8yr/100k warranty which it should still have.

I got this rx8 I was asking about, and I love it so far :D but I got a few questions about it. First off when I revv it up to 7000 I smell gas or clutch fluid I'm not sure which one. I think it might be be because of the exhaust pipe. I found out the the 1st owner cut a hole in the one of the exhaust pipes on purpose. I'm worried I won't pass emissions because of it. Anyone ever heard of people doing such a thing with the exhaust pipes? And I checked the oil level as instructed in the user manual and I found out the oil level is in between full and empty, but the oil pressure is still at optimal. Should I still put more oil in it?
Also I didn't get a compression test yet, but I intend to sometime next week.
Thanks :D
