Msrp

Guys...im going to the stealership tomorrow to look at a rx-8.They have one there velocity red fully loaded without the appearence package or rotary accents and the msrp is $34,995.On the board i see you guys getting your cars for way cheaper. My question is,whats a good price for me to be able to beat them down to if i wanted that car with the appearence package.

Go to Consumer Reports dot com and pay them $40 to get dealer cost. I got my 8 under s plan but paid CR just to check. Price's were the same on everything. Cost me $40 to make sure I was getting a good deal, well worth it IMHO. :D

Isn't that the same price shown on Edmunds.com? Just without paying $40?

You should at leat be able to get it down to $31,000 to $31,500. I just bought mine at about the same MSRP for $31,500 and in hind sight I know I could have gotten a better deal, so start lower than that.

Also, how are you paying for the car?

Think you could get a better deal if you pay in full?

The car is going to be paid for in cash, but whats funny is my dads in the market for a jeep.He went to the dealership and told the salesman he wants to pay cash for the car and the salesman said "we dont like cash,we rather give u a better deal if you finance" and he was willing to take more money off if my dad financed.

TRUE - Dealer gets paid additional when you finance with them, so they would prefer it to you paying cash or having your own finance co.

just means less deal, you should still be able to get it for way below MSRP.

I got mine for $100 over invoice. You just need to get good reliable information on their costs, and be strong in your negioting (strong; not obnoxious). Paying cash is no incentive to the dealer as pointed out above, however, when you take delivery is. So when you go in there, you can open with intentions to sign the deal "next week, after I get my bonus at work" or some other excuse, but then when you want them to drop the price, offer to make the deal right away if they are willing to go lower. The sooner you are willing to close the deal and drive it off the lot, the better (from their perspective).

^agree, i'd figure cash buyers have a lot of bargaining power, because it's guaranteed money in the pocket if they can make a deal work.

Get the incentives

Look into financing it for incentives and pay the entire car off in the first month. Just make sure that there is no penalty for early payment and that the interest isn't front loaded. In NY, where I bought my car last week, I got $4,000 in incentives for financing and I am going to pay it off the first month. I went over it with them and with a lawyer (my brother), and I think its going to work out for me. I negotiated a $34,600 MSRP down to $31,500. (Invoive $31,707) Then they took $2,500 off for financing. Then added tax (8.75%, and took off an additional $1,500. When it was all said and done. I got the car for $30,167 out of my pocket. Definitely look into this. Ask to see the financing contract though. Mine was specific to New York State.

Agree ... go to Edmunds.com and determine the invoice for the car you want. This will give you an idea if the dealer is being upfront with you. even if they aren't you can use it to your advantage. check internet pricing some dealers are more agressive upfront. Play a couple of dealers against each other :D . This can be very effective. If you can wait ... try the last few days of the month. You should be able to obtain +- a few hundred $$ of invoice.

Let us know what you get.
