Mazda Marketing - Offering Upgrades
Mazda Marketing - Offering Upgrades
Has anyone else been receiving offers/phone calls from Mazda about 'upgrading' your RX8 to a newer model?
I received a card in the mail about this yesterday which was not a big deal. However, I just received a call at work about it. First they pretend to be a customer satisfaction survery call, asking how the car was handling and how the body/paint was holding up. They they wanted me to make an appointment to discuss an 'upgrade' because the dealership had run out of out of pre-owned rx8's.
Its tempting at first, but then again this is a car, not a computer.
Very strange...........

I have heard or other companies offering similar things. My parents have a G35 sedan and they were contacted by Infiniti after they had the car for just about 24 months asking if they wanted an upgrade. The way that worked was they (Infiniti NA) wanted to get their hands on cars that the general public had used, get their opinions and dissect them to see how they were holding up and if there were any problems or modifications that they wanted to make for the upcoming model year.
I have not heard of Mazda doing this before now, sometimes it is not manufacturer sanctioned and simply dealer sanctioned. They figure they can offer you a deal to upgrade to a newer model and then sell the used one for more profit, particularly if the resale values are very good and depreciation low. With RX8 sales slow and the values on used ones slightly depressed, I am curious who is behind this offer and why they are doing it...
If you have an early 2004, maybe Mazda is trying to get their hands on some cars to use as test mules and see how the car ages in real world conditions.

I've gotten several of these offers. After hearing of all of the discrepancies in mpg from one car to the next, I am going to stick with mine since it is finally getting decent mileage. I think I would pick Silver if I ever took them up on it, even though it is cursed.
This is one of the many marketing ploys used by dealerships to try and generate new car sales. They don't really 'need' your car, they just want you to buy a new one.
In fact, the fellow over at edmunds who went 'undercover' as a car salesman listed it as one of their tactics- http://www.edmunds.com/advice/buying...2/article.html It's a long article, but a very good read if you have the time.
