Looking at a NEW '06 RX-8

Never been titled, 600 miles, still on the dealer's lot. MSRP $30k. I've read on other threads that buyers have gotten some serious discounts. The sales guy mentioned $4-5k in "rebates" available on this car. I'm thinking I can get more. What are all of your experiences? Advice? I'll probably be buying in the next month or so.

BTW, this is not my first time around the block (in terms of buying a car). Been there, done that. However, it's the first time when such deep discounts were available...

Thanks!

Daniel

Go ahead.

You can get it for 26 or 27 out the door.

I was hoping to get 'em down to the $21-23k range (before TT&L), especially since it's an '06. Am I pipe dreaming, or could this be pulled off?

I've seen previous year models go for about 24,500 without tax/etc a year ago. I spent a lot of time, all my time actually, bombarding about 20 dealerships with offers and trying to convince them to go lower, 24,500 was the absolute lowest on a new one.

But...might as well try. My strategy was to look at the sale numbers and just feed them the data. RX-8 sales are going down ridiculously year by year, out of my head about 30%. So...I'd tell them, more formally of course, look...Sales are down by 30% from last year, what you have here is a used vehicle that's been sitting on the lot for over 1 year. It's getting more difficult to find buyers, and if you're willing to lose a slight amount of cash, I'll be willing to take the car off your lot :D

Also, show them competitive offers. If you find a low buy, save that page and throw it at the dealership you're going to.

Communication means they know your interested. If there aren't any other requests, and you keep negotiating, at some point they might give you a bargain. I'm no expert of course, I just learned from watching my dad whenever he bought cars. My family has always got ridiculous deals on whichever car we bought in the past.

Does that not mean this car has been used for test drives all the time? i.e. trashed and not broken in correctly?

Yes, that is a concern. Either that or it was one of the manager's personal cars. No difference between the two, really.

good luck getting it this low...........maybe a base automatic RX-8 with absolutely no options. If you want a manual with perhaps a Sport Package, you'll be lucky to get it down to 25k. You want to go with a GT package, you're looking at 27-28k at a minimum.
