Looking to join the club.
Greetings everyone,
I've wanted an RX8 ever since they came out, but I was always too young and financially dependent on my parents to work out the logistics of obtaining one. I've been looking to buy my first "on my own" car and can't seem to get away from the rx8. I was just hoping you could all answer a few questions to help me make a decision.
1. New or used:
Is a cheaper used model with low mileage a better idea than a brand new one? Are the problems I've read about with the older models reason enough to avoid?
2. Price:
The car is in my price range, but just barely. What's a fair price to shoot for when negotiating with the dealer? I found a 2004 with 24,000miles for 18k, worth it?
3. Maintenance: I've read a lot on the forums here about the maintenance this thing requires. Is it actually excessive or is it just a matter of actually doing all those frequent oil, tire pressure, etc. checks that most people don't bother doing.
4. Gas mileage:
How bad is bad? I drive a Tribute right now and I get what most people would call awful gas mileage - 18HW, less in the city - is this on par with that?
I'm certainly willing to put in the work, but I'm a little intimidated by some of the other posts given my relative inexperience with cars.
Thanks for the help.

1. Used
2. As Renesis said above, 2005+ if at all possible. You could probably do better, I got my 05 GT with 19,000 miles on it for 16.5k.
3. Right, it's a rotary but it's nothing impossible. Check and change oil regularly. Read up on synthetic vs non-synthetic oil usage and decide upon premixing.
4. Terrible. I've averaged nothing more than 16-17mpg. You gotta pay to play.
