locating rx-8

What's the best tool for locating a specific rx (05;titanium; red/blck;nav;gt)? I've tried MazdaUSA but it's zip code or city specific. I may travel a good distance in USA to buy?

By the way, I'm in San Francisco

Thanks,

Kawika

get on mazda's site and get a list of all the dealers within a few hundred miles and fax or call them with a list of what you want. take offers and then call them back.

Anyone with information regarding a USA inventory data base without selecting one city after another on MAZDAUSA?

You're going to have to hack into the matrix for that info...

I just started putting in Zip codes up and down the state - You will have to get a CA car.
There have to be new cars coming soon

Also the dealers can go through the inventory coming in

If you buy out of state expect hell on getting it registered in your home state.. and you are gonna have to come up with sales tax if there's any diffrence. If the state you buy it in has a higher sales tax you lose the diffrence and only get credit for the sales tax in your current state.

I hope that's not the case with sales tax. One dealership that I was talking to said they had all the info they needed at the dealership to handle taxes on a per state basis. Did you end up paying the state taxes you bought the car in, or you home state? You should have only paid taxes for your home state, right?

Kawika,

Mazda USA has a FREE customer service number you can call for vehicle purchasing/ locating assistance. Their staff have immediate computer access to ALL the Mazda dealership inventory and purchase orders. So, if a car exists- they know how to find it. I used them to locate/ purchase my RX8 recently, and they were helpful, courteous, and effective.

Write down exactly what you're looking for and give them a call: 1.800.639.1000 -OR- you can email them: friendatmazda@mazdausa.com

Hope this info helps.

Yes. This is how I found both my 05 models. The first one I did the MazdaUSA website search by zip code and got a list of zips further out than 150 miles It was time consuming and the list of options on the dealer inventory is sometimes incomplete.

The first car I called them and asked when a dealer in my area was getting a car like the one I wanted. They gave me the VIN, told me it was "on the boat" and when it was to be delivered to my local dealer. Called them up and put a down payment on that specific car. Bought it 3 weeks later.

The second car I wanted exactly like the first (got totalled). There were none in metro Atlanta like my first 8. I called customer service again but they said none were in the build cycle. They did, however, find one in Kansas, 800 miles away. I flew out that Friday, bought it and drove it back.

I have never before loved a car so much that I would put that kind of effort into purchasing, but there it is. Good luck with your search.

Not my experience. Easy peasy.

If the state you are buying the car in has reciprocal taxing with your home state, they will collect the sales tax and charge you the local %. Usually neighboring states have reciprocity, but ask the business office.

If the state doesnt have reciprocity with your home state (states not neighboring), you will have to wait to pay the tax when you get the car home. Don't pay the dealer sales tax unless they have reciprocity.

When I bought my car in KS, I did not pay sales tax (no reciprocity with GA). I recently went to register my car expecting to pay the sales tax at that time. No. I bought the plates and now wait for the tax office to send me a tax bill.

Valpac, who did you buy from? I bought my Miata from Davis Moore in Wichita three years ago and had a great experience. Now the car I really want is at Sunflower in Olathe (KC). They seem like much more of the big dealer let's see if we can screw this guy kind of dealer. I even had another dealer in KC give me a pretty good quote on the same car over the internet--I assume they would just work a trade with Sunflower. I live in Colorado, but I'm going to KC this weekend so I might try to work on something with them on that car. OTOH I found a dealer in Aurora, CO who's willing to transport a car for me from Utah for no charge. But I wonder if that will hurt my negotiating position.

Yep, thats the place. I did not experience any of the expected dealer shenanigans.

I think they kinda knew I was all business and didnt push it. I had S-Plan PIN number in hand along with two checks for the total amount. The business office did try to squeeze me for the extended warranty "deal" No dice, thanks anyway. What they did do was beat the Capital One financing I arrived with by 1/2%. Not a ton, but less is less.

Overall, a good buying experience.

It seems that if you have S-Plan that Sunflower isn't too bad. My friend got a new 3 with them through S-Plan. OTOH there is this jackass that talked to me (and apparently my friend and my parents on different occassions) telling me all kinds of lies and BS about how they don't deal on 8s and there is no room on the price. He made up some story about the fire in Hiroshima and how many RX-8s he had sold that day and blah blah. Yeah Sunflower has a lot of RX-8s, but I wouldn't want to deal with them on a car.

Did you try the Gerber? I haven't figured out if that's gonna work for me yet.

Seriously, I never got anything in the mail. MazdaUSA said they send an "ad" out in the mail and that coupled with the rebate form is what you present to the dealer. It is a promotional rebate for families with children (trying to sell MPV's, my guess) of which I have none. So I didnt get the ad in the mail.
