Was I a sucker?

Did anyone else purchase the "A Touch of Class" protectant for $495 (interior / exterior)? Kind of sounded good at the time. Wanted to keep my girl looking her best you know. Anyone have any experience with the product? Was I a sucker or is it worthwhile?

I got that done on mine, not too sure if the paint protection is worth it but the undercoat did reduce the road noise.

I would be so happy with a new 8 I wouldn't even give it any thought... Me personally though, I would never take anything offered from a dealer unless it's free...

Anything "offered" by a stealership for "free" is something they owe you anyway.
For the most part, anything added by a stealership, whether you pay for it or not, is probably owed to you.
To the point, a stealership will try to get you to pay for things you don't even actually get.

Paint protection is one of those things.

There is no known protectant for paint beter than wax. That is it.
No Teflon®, polymer or plastic (short of an adhesive cover) actually does anything.

On the interior, Scotchguard® has been known to be somewhat effective if you maintain it, but only on porous cloth.
You can do that yourself for about $10.

By the way, to figure out the value of any added item from a stealership, just move the decimal in the price to the left two places.

I never even heard of this option.."A touch of class?" hmmm is this a dealership/stealership particular thing? My dealer didn't mention it.

good point... I'm a retail manager and you're correct, nothing is "free". The point I am trying to make is that I would not accept any of those extra "window etching", "rustproofing", etc. unless they deduct it off the BOS but give it to me anyway. For example, the last car I got from a dealership had the window etching, which I refused to pay for so they didn't include it on the price but they gave it to me anyway.

While I find that to be a funny comment, I don't think most would find it very nice.

One of my colleagues bought a "protectant that will keep her car free from ever needing wax" when she got her car. I think it was called the "Emperors-New-Clothing Option".

I still laugh about this one.

My dealer mentioned "touch of class" but they never pushed me into getting it. I made that mistake when I bought my Solara (first car). I then found out, it was nothing magical but dealership profit. Sucked in once, shame on them. Sucked twice, that would be "shame on me".

Learn from it, don't let that get you down. Now go out and drive your prize!
