I need some insurance help
Hey guys/gals, I'm getting my license and car on my 17th birthday. I was wondering if someone, with extensive knowledge with insurance, can give me a rough estimate on how much I would be paying monthly for a used 2005 Auto RX-8.

Yes, someone can - any insurance company. At 17 I'd guess you'll be on your parents policy (no offense intended, just seems likely) so ask them to get the quote for adding you (they'll likely be paying through the nose, but should also get some discounts for additional cars on the policy).
If you're getting your own policy - call around: Geico, State Farm, USAA if you're eligible. Rates depend on your age and vehicle *and* on the state, municipality and coverage.
Rough estimate? For a 17-year-old? $400/month (assuming you're a guy - we pay far higher rates because we wreck more cars). Insurance will probably cost more than the payments on the car.
Here's real advice though - ask about good student discount, then do whatever it takes to get that. When I was in school I think USAA gave 20% for exceeding a 3.0 average. Be sure they apply any other applicable discounts such as for airbags, anti-lock brakes, traction control system (if your car has that - it's an option). Some ins companies automatically find all those features based on the VIN, but sometimes they don't.

My parents did not want to even think about getting a quota because they was thinking it was going to be outrageously high payments. I knew about the good student thing tho i have a 2.8 =/ so I do not qualify right now but I can pay myself $400-$500 a month. Thanks for your help and I will hopefully be picking this bad boy up in the next couple of weeks!

Anywhere from $50-500 a month. No, I'm not kidding. Put the Z in mommy or daddy's name and pickup an old beater to put in yours. If you've got $300+ per month to waste on insuring a sports car, you certainly can pony up the $1500 to get into an old truck.

Basically the other guys said it all.
At 19, I was paying ~$383/month (American Family Insurance), but that was with a couple tickets on my record.
Now I'm 22 and all my tickets have cleared. I'm currently paying $124/month.
It's off-topic, but those speeding tickets really screwed me over, so drive safe.
Grats on the car, btw.

17?? Alot you'lll defiantaly be paying 300-400 per month on your own policy. and prob more on your parent's policy. that's how it was for me at least. It was more expensive to be on my own. Definately be more for insurance a month than the car payment! Are you paying for the car too? prob not I'm guessing. But with car payment and insurance I'd say 700 a month plus prob 150 at least in gas. It's definately gonna be alot for insurance. Definately get a quote from a few differnet places!! Geico, state farm, etc good luck man

Hi there, first off congrats, I'm jealous, I was stuck with a 79 dodge omni from my parents or accept nothing LOL
Insurance is going to suck for you w/your age. Any proof of driver's ed training, good grades will help with most carriers. Best way to go is share a policy with your parents- have the carrier rate you on another vehicle and your mom or dad on the 8 if necessary. Have it rated as pleasure use, low mileage 4 to 5 thousand annually. (I've never had a carrier ask for proof)
Hope this helps!

Indeed you are definitely looking in the 400 range. Try to raise those grades and complete any training you can as other's have mentioned. This will help your rate.
