It's simple. I want to buy this:
2005 RX8, Black/Black, GT, Nav, Appearance, Wing, Accents, Alarm Upgrade.

They offer me:
2004 GT, Nav, nothing else.
Appearance , no Nav.
Nav, no Appearance.
Never the Alarm upgrade.
GT, Appearance, CD Chanager, CASSETTE!!, NO NAV.

How hard is it to get what I want?

My last choice - on the dealer's lot right now: 05 Black/Black, GT, Nav, Wing, Accents, NO APPEARANCE. Does it matter? I can add it later - should I?


And do you belive I found a dealer with 7 Nordic Green 04's in stock??

You can get the appearance as an addon, so I'd def get that. The only other option would be to order one and wait 12 weeks.

Don't get hung up on the port-installed add-ons (appearance pieces and alarm).. you'll save money getting them from online vendors anyway. I don't think the shock sensor upgrade is ever installed- you can get it for under $40 though. Same with the accents- the dealer will just charge double for them anyway. Just make sure it's a GT with NAV, and the rest is easy (check out trussvillemazda.com and finishlineperformance.com for dealers with great prices on parts).

My '04 came with everything except the strakes and alarm sensor, both of which I added.

The only stuff you need from the factory is
black
GT
NAV

All the rest are dealer addon anyway. Order the Appearance, Wing, Alarm Upgrade from Rosenthal or Trussville for less than buying with the car. They're already painted to match.

I agree with the others. Get the GT & Nav with whatever is on it, and order the rest later. In my case, I told the dealer I wanted the air dam but not the side details, and they installed it for me when the car arrived. Since then I've added other things myself - fender strakes, chrome fuel door, cargo net. The details like that are easy to add yourself, and cheaper if you buy from Trussville or Rosenthal online.

There is a 2004 available : Black, GT, NAV. That's it nothing else.

I'm not shy about working on the car or ordering everything separately. Just thought I'd avoid the work since I can afford it now..

My first love was a 1984 VW GTI. I got it on a thursday. On Saturday I had the whole dashboard apart. It seemed odd to have those two gauges waaaay down by the shifter and the radio up so high. It took me 10 hours to swap them. Thank G-d that Dad was away that weekend - he didn't need to see the car he just paid for in pieces on the garage floor .

My only worry is that the 2004 will have all the sofware/firmware upgrades and the technical bulliten issue taken care of. And there's the two-piece key....

And the loss of value, do I really make it up with $4000 in rebates, or is buying a 2004 in 2005 not smart at all?

For me personally, I'm gunshy about buying a car in the first model year. Other may feel differently. But the 04 and 05 are virtually the same car otherwise.

Good to know that you can get the accent and appearance stuff and add it on yoruself. Is any of it difficult to add-on yourself?

Some of it is quite easy. You can even find some of the directions online to get an idea - here's a couple from Rosenthal (see the .pdf file links):

Rotary Accent
Fender Strakes
Aluminum Fuel Door

Besides that, whatever you add, it's a good bet that one or more people on this board have already done it, and are happy to share pointers, etc.
