How much should I offer? ver.5735

After a lot of thinking, I've finally decided to start my hunt for an RX-8.

I've found the car I'd like to buy, but I'm not a real big fan of the $20,000 asking price. What seems fair to all of you?

It's a 2004 GT, with 14,000 miles, appearance package, and every option but navigation. I've had it checked out by a mechanic and he said it was perfect.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

15K is the MOSt I will pay. remember with enough *research*, you can probably get a brand new 07 for about 25K

One of my dad's clients is selling his 8 to me for $20,000. Its 2005 Black w/ Black and Red interior (the exact one I want) and has 5,000 miles. Its manual and in perfect condition. He is going to sell it to me as a favor, it is the price he can buy it for from Mazda when his lease is up. What do you think?

sounds good to me. nycgps might not agree with that statement though. :P

since assume you are like me. (i.e. under 25 and not married.) here's a heads up though, get the vin number and goto your insurance company. ask them to check how much it will cost to put the car on the insurance first. unless out-the-*** rates are no problem to you. i pay 5k/year.

$17,500 - $18,000 would be all I'd offer. The NADA Dealer Retail in the car is only $18,200 before you ad for the low miles.

I had a 2005 loaded and bought a 2007 loaded no nav. The RX8 depriciates very bad. MSRP was $33,400 I paid $28K so $20K for a 2004 is to much. The dealer will give you $12,500 - $14,000 on a trade for a 2004 so don't bury yourself. You need to pay around $15-$16K or keep looking.

These dealers want all the money when selling but when you trade they kill you on the car
You may think about leasing your payments will be close. I am paying $460 w/tax for 36 months on a brand new one.

if it depreciates that badly, why would you trade it in for a nearly identical model?

05 rx8 and 07 rx8 is like.. exactly the same.

Just bought an 04 with 51,000 miles on it for $15,000 in the Greensboro, NC area; 6-speed w/ Navigation System. They're out there but are hard to find. Good luck!
