Hopefully buying.

I found what seems to be a good RX-8 on ebay, but there's a catch. The car is about 5 1/2 hours away from where I live. I just wanted some quick feedback from anyone who has bought a car at distance. Were you able to avoid getting your loan until after you had seen the car? What exactly is the process here?

Sorry if I sound a little clueless, but buying a car and loans etc is all new to me. Thanks for any help you can give.

I am in the same situation except i decide to go against ebay buying...Basically what you do is you bid then you put 500 dollar down first day non-refundable...then you have to pay in full with paypal, within 7 days....THEN they ship the car...if they actually ships it....I know ebay says they protect up to 20000 but who knows how long the process will take to actually get the money.............

i bought mine from an individual that was almost 4 hours away so the first time i had a chance to see it was when i bought it. what i did for my loan was got all the paperwork in order with my "bank" (i went through state farm for mine) and then went to the guy with the check for a down payment. if i wanted to back out of the deal i could and no money had transferred hands. once i was there i test drove it and gave him the check and called state farm to transfer the rest of the funds to his bank.

the smart thing would have been to have a mechanic thoroughly inspect it but i wasn't really thinking rationally when i stumbled upon the deal i got. so far i've had it about a year and no complaints about it.
