I almost bought a 2005 white RX-8 but the dealer tried to tack on about 2500 bucks for it being thier first '05. I bought an '04 for 3500 below sticker.

Charging $2500 more for an 05 is ridiculous.

Hard to believe some people will actually pay that price!

Agreed. Ludicrous. $2,500 more? And yes, somebody probably will pay it.

How can they charge more for a 2005 than for a 2004 unless you buy white? I thought the two models are identical? (after applicable TSBs have been done on a 2004 vehicle)

Guys, the new model year ALWAYS goes for more than the old model year. That's just standard dealer practice. It's human nature to always want the newest and best, so obviously because it has a new year that means it's better right??

And yes, I'm being sarcastic. But dealers want the 04s off the lots (why buy an 04 when you can have an 05!), so they sell for less than the 05s. It'll only get worse as the year ends and there are still 04s sitting on the lots.

There's a silver and grey 05 sitting at my local dealership for sale. They also have about 15 04 models left as well. I'd imagine they are not willing to let those 05 models go for too cheap because they have to get rid of the 04 models. I did an online service appointment to take my car in, and along with my service appointment, I am getting hounded with emails thanking me for my interest in a new 04 rx8. They threw offers on table via email, and they are well over 1k below invoice. Desparation has set in, and I'd imagine this is putting a serious stall on the 05. They really want to get the 05s out there, but their hands are tied. Depreciation is the only thing that really makes buying an 05 a smarter choice. If you plan on keeping your rx8 for a long time, the 04 is way to go. For those of you who trade your cars in frequently, the 05 is a better choice because the super deals on the 04s do come at a price, and come trade in time you will lose most of the deal you got on it, but as long as you arent' planning on trading it in within 4 years, the 04 is def the way to go. I predict a serious drop on production for the 05 model.

no,
the 04 is the better deal because you 12k free miles on it because the 05s are out + you should be able to get an 04 for more than 1k below invoice. buy over ithe internet.

The dealers should offer the 05 model for $35 to $40k then. Makes the identical 04 @ $25 k look like a deal then.

Picked up my Pearl White 2005 8 days ago. My dealer didn't mark it up - S plan plus a little more off even though he had to trade another dealer for the factory installs I was looking for.

Just bought an 05, today. Will be here the second week in Oct. Velocity Red, MT, 1GT, NAV1, CDC, 2RP, 2AP, RSW, MND, CGN, DEG, SSU. Dealer was cool this time. Whipped out the S-Plan on him, so I got it for invoice plus the doc fee (which I couldnt get him to budge on ). He asked if I wanted the White, but I'd have to wait until November to get it. I've waited long enough.

Also, gave me a loaner to play with until mine comes in... COOL!

I saw the white 05 yesterday. The GM a the dealership was showing it off. It had lots of MS packages on it including a Cat back. The GM said he still prefers the Velocity Red though. They said the 05 are running $400 more than the 04s. You can still get a good deal on an 04 though.

???

Are dealers closed on Sunday where you live?

Anyway, I finally sold my FD today, so I will be shopping this week. It will be interesting!

CarsDirect.com is quoting a price nearly $400 below invoice for Southern California, which is a great price.

Oh I see. You are using an on-line deal. Any amount under invoice for one of these cars is a great deal. I could only get $400 over invoice and I used competition and even a car broker. The dealer won out because they matched the broker and they were able to find the car with the options I wanted. Turned out there were only two cars in the country that had the right color and options. I could not wait a month for an 05 because my trade-in. 2004 Pontiac Grand AM would have taken a another deep decrease in value. I lost 50% value from that car. I think that's my last GM car. The car was built to last 4 years tops and that's why I got rid of it. The fact it was a lease was the other reason.

One dealer told me he wasn't selling 05 except white and he couldn't even take an order.

I used the fact that the 05's are coming out to my advantage. Went to the only dealer withing 100 miles that had anything close to what I wanted. The problem was it had things I didn't want. Told them that unless I got a great deal, I would simply order an 05 from the dealer near my house.

I got the car for close to $800 below invoice! I didn't think this was possible in Souther California. Great price, great car, and I can't wait to pick her up tomorrow!

S Plan is special discounts given to people that are able to get this 'plan'

couple hundred dollars off invoice, no negotiation required.

Picked up my 2005 Titanium Grey 6MT GT with Red/Black Interior, 6 Disc Changer, Rotary Accent, two days ago. I used S-Plan. I had ordered the car (without the 6 disc changer & Rotary Accent) about 3 weeks ago and was told that it wouldn't arrive until early November. I get a call from the dealer on Monday and he said he found a car (With the changer and rotary accent) at a dealer in NJ and because it was the end of the month and the end of the quarter he would sell it to me and not charge me extra for the options I didn't order. I jumped. My purchase price was $29,599. Only downer is that I had to drive it home in the rain in bumper to bumper traffic, and have been working long hours, so I haven't played with it yet. Today is the day.

oops! The car has a rear spoiler on it as well. The spoiler was part of my original order.
