A good deal 05 RX8

Hello everyone. I'm over here from the Mazda 3 forums where I have a 06 Whitewater Pearl 3s hatch. Anyway, my wife wants to get rid of her 05 Accord V6 We drove an '05 Nordic Green 6 speed MT, GT Package, Appearance Package, Spoiler and Rotary Accent package today with 62 miles on it that stickers at $33,149. The dealer said he would do invoice at $30,431 (matches Edmunds.com). Plus the Mazda $1,000 cash back and another $1,000 if I finance through Mazda. So I can walk out the door with the car for $28,431 not including title and taxes....

So, what do you guys think?? Worth it or not? I looked around on this site for what other people paid, etc. But I can't tell if they included incentives or such. Thanks again!!!

Sounds like a good deal unless you want to be like some people and try to rip every last cent you can out of the dealer's hands.

My car is the same set up, but no rotary accent package. I paid $28,200 before tax and before factoring in my trade-in. Your deal seems to be about the same as mine. I was happy with it.

I also just purchased at 05 Nordic Green 6 speed MT, with the GT Package. This was the only one left on our area with the chappell interior. It was actually just shipped and still had the white overlay paper on the vehicle. So I could not test drive that one. I paid as a drive out price 24,675. That included the 1,000 Mac finiacing, which I already refinanced. I have had the vehicle about 30 days now.

If I had the option to get the apperance package I would, I am interested in getting a spoiler later. I did not see the rotary appearance option- what does that include? This is out in Maryland if anyone is interested.

What are you talking about?

Who do you think is in a better bargaining position, the dealership or the buyer?

Did you volunteer to pay MSRP for your last car, or are you a salewoman?

If large payments are a problem...you might look into a lease. I bet you can get your payments below 400 with next to nothing down (3 years).

The Mazda site shows the $1000 back for MAC financing, but I don't see anything about another $1000 cash back?? Sounds like a good deal. I paid a couple hundred more for the same packages 3 weeks ago, but didn't know about the additional $1000. Maybe there's a bit more room to negotiate??

I am thinking of people like my stepdad with that one. He was considering buying my mom a new 2005 Tribute. Her MPV is only worth about $7400. The Tribute they were looking at had an MSRP of $29,000. He seemed to think he could get this Tribute for $12,000!!!! He figured since there was a total discount of $6000 off MSRP and her trade-in amount, that he could get this deal. People like that are the unreasonable ones I am referring to.

My car's price is set at $400 over invoice and then I am eligible for any other discounts that are offered at the time my car gets here. I went through Costco. It saved me all the trouble of trying to negotiate.

The point is that no one "rips every last cent out of the dealer's hands."

The dealer is in the best position of all to determine whether they are willing to sell any particular car at any particular price.

You make it sound as if the dealer is under duress, when in fact, they are not.

The whole objective of the consumer is to get the lowest price possible on the vehicle they want. This is otherwise known as the machinations of free market capitalism.

It always amazes me how people call up store managers to get the lowest price on a box of CD's but overpay for cars and the worst part is uninformed people don't even know how they are being screwed and get taken in by the dealers sweet talk.

Its not the car salesmans fault, its the dealers that pull the strings and rake in the profits. Unfortunately car salesmen get all the flak and hardly and money to boot.

I'm glad I could create some 'discussion'. I think we are going to drive a couple of similiar cars this weekend and hold off on the 8 until aflter that. We going to try out the G35 coupe, probably drive and RSX again and also hit a used Lexus IS300 with manual tranny (that's what she had before her Accord except it was an auto). Thanks again for your opinions and I'm sure the cars I just mentioned will also create some more opinions....

Exactly! The buyer has NO idea what hold backs, etc, are available to the dealer. Even selling at invoice the dealer <can> make money.

3 weeks ago I made an offer for a 2005 RX8 at $600 below invoice.

1st round: The salesman questioned my offer. "You know these MSRP for $33k?" Yes I know

2nd round: He visits the manager and produces the invoice showing I'm offering below their cost. We sell cars to make money he says. OK, that's still my offer.

3rd round: Can you split the difference? NO

Now he starts to sound annoyed. Almost pissed. I tell him I'll be fine if I leave without the car, and I hope he'll be fine too. That's my offer today. May be higher the next time I come back, maybe not. I <may> try the same deal somewhere else....

They take the offer. I finance a couple of thousand to get the additional $1000 off the price from MAC. They ask me to wait a few months before paying off the loan.

They <probably> still made $1000 or more selling it below invoice. They also added the .5% B&O tax thing which I noticed after the fact. $145. So, I'm paying the loan off day one rather than waiting like they asked. It costs me $75 a month to pay later.

Even the dealers that claim to be " no hassle" are a PITA!

Uninformed buyers have NO idea. Any well informed buyer can do a little research on the net and find out the holdback and dealer cash for any car on sale in the US.

of course NO dealer would sell a car for a loss. They know the price they are willing to let it go for and the uninformed buyer is obviuosly not aware of it. So they overypay and think they got a good deal while they might have infact overpaid. The car salesman get a % of the profit he generates for the dealer so the more he makes you overpay the more money he makes. Dealers today are happy with their holdback and are happy to move cars off their lots. Big dealers get money from cars companies for X amount of cars moved a month too.

You could be like some people here though and think you need to be grateful to a car dealer for selling you car and overpay or you could be smart about and pay the lowest price possible. Its like you can go to a grocery store and offer to pay something for $10 while it may only cost $6 but you feel obliged and obligated for the grocery chain for selling you a fruit that you wanted and offer $4 more.

Unfortunately since buying a car is a "big time" purchase the difference isn't 4 bucks but 4000 bucks if you get taken for a ride.

Here's hoping you make a "well informed" and wise decision while buying a car unlike 99.9% of the people who don't.

selling at invoice is a great deal for the dealer .. remember the 2k discount comes from mazda not dealer .. THIS IS NOT UP FOR DISCUSSION WITH THE SELESMAN .. he has nothing to do with it and is not making you any deals or favors

someone up here offered 600 under invoice and i would probably do the same .. anything else and youre being ripped .. trust me dealers are still very happy with 600 under invoice

Yeah holdback on the RX-8 is 538 and dealer cash was 1500. If you used MAC another 1000. 600 under invoice and the dealer still moves the car at a $2450 profit+mazda money for moving X amount of cars. This is of course is assuming dealer cash at that time was 1500. If you bought an 04 in 05 dealer cash was 4500!! :-O

The $1000 from MAC comes off the price of the car and goes in my pocket, so they made $1450. I'm OK with them making about 5%.

The dealer will try and talk you into carrying the loan for 6 months so they don't get any flack from MAC. I thought about it until I noticed the B&O tax BS. Live and learn......

the are no prepay penalties read the contract you can pay off the loan as soon as they establish your account number in the bank

How long does the rebate take to come. I'm guessing its a check in the mail after about 4-6 weeks so I wonder if you pay it immidetly if Mazda can stop the check. I doubt thats the case but I'd like to hear from someone who's probably done something like that (pay back the loan asap and still get the MAC cash afterwards).
