Question Discount on an RX-8???

A dealership here in Portland, OR had the exact RX-8 I wanted on their lot, only the manager was using it as his own until it sold. It had 5k miles on it at the time & they were only willing to take off $500 bucks from the $32k price. They said since the car has never been signed to anyones name it is still considered brand new. Okay 5,000 miles in my book....is not brand new anymore! lol. Anyway I think they should have given a MUCH bigger discount than $500. Other dealers out there will give you $1500 off a brand new one...so who knows what that one place was thinkin! What do you gusy think would be a fair discount for this situation?

Technically since the car has never been titeld it is a new car.

But if theres 5k miles on it, then its really a demo.
Regardless, someone will buy it.

I think at least a few thousand off is the least they can do- you can negotiate $500 off for a brand new one without the miles in most places now.

btw, some states require dealer demo cars like that to be disclosed as such. I think it's stupid that not everyone has to.

Sounds out of whack to me too. I just bought a new one (50 miles on it), off the lot for $1800 below sticker price (with only two rounds of haggling...). Your "mileage" may vary...

As far as Dealer demos go, the dealer owns the demo for the same price he owns a non demo for unless the dealer writes down the cost while its in demo service and I don't know of any dealer that does this. The dealer will always try to sell a demo first if someone is looking for a discount. Anybody with any snap or has done their homework won't fall for that though. They get sold to people that aren't enthusiasts and just think its a neat car and have to have one. They are also usually the ones left on the lot at the end of the year when people are looking for a "bargain"

hey amysmojo. I bought my car from Herzog Mier, Beaverton via the internet. My car had 3 miles on odometer, and had every option except Nav. Price was $30,700. If you are serious, I will hook you up with internet fleet manager, so you can get the same deal. Good luck to you

amysmojo,

Dealer mentioned above 'Meier' sent me email mentioned previously a month or so ago. (Invoice + $750)

But for 35 cents you can find ads in today's 'Oregonian'
from the two 'R---- ----' dealers in town. Westside dealer shows
7 units at MSRP - $3750 and eastsice dealer shows 3 units at MSRP -$3500. Prices of units are listed in ads and using mazdausa.com will get you the colors and options.

I am sure any dealer in town would ask you to pay MSRP or more for their manager or owner driven units. I am also sure they would be willing to go much lower. As 'budaman2' stated the cost to dealer of a predriven unit and a undriven unit is the same.

Value to the customer should not be the same. It would not be to me.
