Cost Difference

I have been looking at the RX-8 since it came out last year. I was considering getting one when they were released until the hp controversy and poor gas mileage among other things. I am pleased to have read that Mazda has been working to improve many of the problems that the car may have (M Flash, AC Amp). I have also considered many other cars, new and used, and the RX8 seems to keep coming back to the top. The current two leaders are the RX8 and TSX; different cars and hard to compare.

So I went car shopping again and one of the dealers has a used GT with approx 6k miles on it (approx 40 mo of warranty left). Word is an exchange student bought it for a final semester at college then sold it back after school ended. They have the asking price at 28 and change. Now with new ones going for about invoice (28620), their price seems too high especially considering the difference in financing rates. The first question I have is what would be a reasonable price to shoot for on the used car? The end of year sales should be coming up and that adds a little bit of a twist. What are the chances that Mazda will offer 0% for 60 mo, or other such incentive to the car if one were to buy new?

The real question here is what does the final (after financing) cost difference have to be to choose used vs. new?

Thanks for the opinions.

Way too high for a used RX-8 with 6k. No 0% financing but lease rates and incentives on the 8 are great this month.

When I was buying my car a few weeks ago, there was a titanium one with GT and the black/brown leather like I wanted, it even had a clear bra. The guy was asking 27,900 for it, brought it down to 27k even very quickly...it had 3500mi on it. I still turned it down, I got a brand new one with GT package (no clear bra) for 28 and change, so you decide...I think a new one might be slightly better than used

Right now I am thinking it is going to have to be a difference of over 2k for me to get the used over the new. I see most people wanting about $27 for thier used ones with more or less miles so that may not happen for me. Perhaps I will wait for the month to end and see how bad they want to get rid of it.
