Since we actually have owners out there now, did anyone sucessfully receive the $500 graduate rebate? I know there was some debate weither or not it was valid for the RX8.

Dear Mr. Perkins,

My dealer could not confirm the rebate, so he told me if I could produce paperwork from other dealers stating they accept the rebate, he will too. Can you help me out?

If anyone has any info on this, posting it would be greatly appreciated. I bought the car on Friday and graduated only a month or two ago. Any chance I cold go back afterwards and get the rebate? I'm guessing this is a dealership special though.

We picked up our RX-8 on July 14th, and we did receive the $500.00 college rebate. The rebate was placed in the down payment section of the contract, along with our $500.00 deposit, for a total of $1000.00. Since it has been 15 days since we received our car, and we have not heard from the dealer stating that the rebate was rejected, I am assuming that everything went through fine. I don't have a scanner, but if someone needs a fax of our contract, which does show that we received the rebate, I will be happy to fax it to you.

I believe Budaman posted that the RX-8 did not qualify, and I think it was Boowana who posted that he had confirmation that the RX-8 did qualify. I haven't gone through the posts and verified this, but I believe it to be correct. I could be wrong. As far as the rebate, I guess only time will tell.

In my opinion, if dealers allow the rebate, and specifically place the rebate on the contract, I believe Mazda will honor the rebate. If the dealer applies for the rebate, but does not place it on your contract (tells you that you will receive a check from Mazda), you may or may not receive a check.

I do not work for Mazda or a dealership. It is just my gut feeling that Mazda will honor all rebate requests that come to them on contracts. Maybe it will be their way of making up to some preorder customers for countless delays?

I forgot to add that the requirements are that 1) you must have graduated within a 2 year period or 2) must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program. I am currently enrolled in an MBA program at the University of West Florida, and provided the dealership a copy of my degree program signed by the MBA administrator.

The MazdaUSA website also states new 2002 and 2003 models are eligible. Since the RX-8 is a 2004 model, it may be up to individual dealers to either accept or deny the rebate.

You can get the college grad rebate as long as your degree is less than 2 years old, or you will have it in less than 6 months. I should know...I'm the senior salesman at Gunther Mazda, Ft.Lauderdale, Fl.

Hey Hugh Glad to see you joined our little forum. I got an update on my car. It should leave the dock in japan in a few days. Looks like 5-6 weeks.

Since I have already taken delivery of the car, do you think it's too late to go back to the dealership to get my rebate? I've already left a message for my sales person so I'll keep you posted.

The college grad rebate does not apply to the rx-8 at this time.

Got the skinny from mazda tonight. NO college grad rebate for the RX8. You have 1 year from the purchase date to collect it. If they add the 8 to the list. This of course also assumes you will be, or have graduated within 6 months during that year.

They tell me next week......Yessssssssssssssssssss!

Hugh check your PM box! my dealer would not go for the rebate because the rx-8 is a 2004 model and only 2002 and 2003 models apply right now.

I actually e-mailed RX8 ORDERS on this issue and I got a response back saying that the RX-8 DOES qualify. I printed out the e-mail so I can show it as proof. :-) We'll see if it works.

Let's get organized. The purpose of this forum is to help eachother out, shares ideas etc.

So ............

Let's get all the info we can for the rx8 counting for the college rebate. Let's post contracts, emails, etc. Then I can put together a packet for all of us who did not get the rebate to present to our salespeople.

I'll scan the printout and put it up on the site after I use it at the dealership. I pick up my car either this week or next week. ETA 2nd week of August. I'll let you all know if it worked. I emailed rx8orders, so if you want to go ahead and e-mail them. I took them about 1.5 weeks to respond. Not sure if they were mulling over or not, but I got it. I post it next week on this thread.
