I have a question for anyone who knows about these things. I am in the process of buying a brand NEW left over 2004 RX-8 from a California Mazda dealer. Just to be on the safe side I ran a Carfax report on it even though its new just to make sure it wasn't a lemon or returned by someone because it had problems or something. Now most new cars on Carfax show "0 records found in our database". But on this new 2004 RX-8, I was able to run a report on it. It says "estimated one owner", and it says on May 28, 2004 it had 5 miles on it when it was serviced at a service facility. Estimated 33 months left on warranty. NO registrations reported. No problems are shown, no lemon, salvage, buyback etc.

Does anyone know if it sometimes brand new cars will show up on Carfax even though no one has "owned" them except the dealership? Is it probably just because it had an intitial service at the dealership that it shows up on Carfax? If so, how come all the dealership's cars don't all show up on Carfax? Should I be worried about this service that was done with 5 miles on it?

I will ask the dealer too (previously he said it was brand new), but I just want to make sure I ask them the right questions. I guess I'm just wondering if this is a red flag. Any help would be appreciated.

some dealers or warraty work is recorded, usually it depnds on if the state requiers it. like if emmissions were modified etc..
