Question Buying wife a new used car (RX-8)

Hello All,

I'm shopping an 8 for my wife. We have been out test driving and we not particular about having a brand new one. We are up in the air on two different cars.

2005 RX-8
Selling Price: $17,999
Color: Whitewater Pearl
Transmission: 6spd man
Mileage: 29,019
Features:Bose, Sunroof, HID, Heated Seats, Sunroof,Fogs, Black Leather

2004 RX-8
Selling Price: $15,991
Color: that popular gray
Transmission: 6 spd man
Mileage: 23,201
Features: Bose, HID, fogs, Black Fabric.

The 2005 is at a no haggle dealer. The 2004 is at a regular franchise dealer.
I like regular dealers, because there is always wiggle room on the price. My main concern on the 2004 is all the TSB's. I assume the 2004 is out of warranty by date.
It was registered in 06/2004 with an 04/2004 build date. If I can get all the TSB's and flashes up to date at no cost. I'll go with the 2004. I don't car for leather so much or a sunroof. My wife likes the 05 because we don't have many white 8's in our area. Ton's of gray though. I want to get the best possible deal; and I hate the idea of some dealer telling me I'm getting the best deal.

Welcome to the forum! Please add location to your profile.
First I'd say, buy newer if you can. Check the for sale section on this forum. There's always another deal.
Second. Is your wife the type to drive a car hard? because that's what the rotary needs.
The TSBs are for warranty only but the recalls should be covered.
If you have to take leather then buy some seat covers.
I just hate the dealers.

Welcome aboard. The 2004 will be in warranty until 6/08, but I definitely suggest going with the white '05 to get another year+ of factory warranty. If they're asking 18k for the white one then you should be able to buy it for close to 14k... 15k max. So if the other dealer is a no haggle dealer then the choice is obvious. I just got my white '05 with 12k miles on it for 15.5k with my 19's installed, so that white one with 29k miles you should definitely be able to get pretty cheap.

Hey Darkbrew,

Thanks for the welcome. Yeah I like the 05 better because it's newer. No worries about the wife driving hard. We have burnout marks on the road in front of our house. During the test drive the salesman almost pissed himself.

Hey Lateral,

Thanks for the welcome. The problem with the 05 is it's at the no haggle dealer.
On the 04 I'll most likely knock 2 grand of the price. The white is a big plus for me on the 05 plus the fact that it's newer. I'm also a bit uneasy about the 04 since it's the first model year. I might look for another couple weeks. This is more of a Christmas gift then anything. My wife wanted another fast car, and I refused to do another Mustang. We went to test drive the 07 GT, very disappointing. Those things still drive like trucks.

Yeah she is pretty cool. Well the white one was sold last night. I might go buy the gray one today. The dealer is close to my mothers house, and I'm heading in that direction. If a 8 has fog light does it mean it has HID headlights? The HID's seem to come with fogs. Most of the 8's without fogs don't have HID. If the gray sounds and drives good and has the HID lights I just my buy it. I run it by the dealer to make sure all the TSB's are down and make sure the computer has the latest flash. The 04 only has 23k miles and still has 6 months on warranty. I have other cars so I can give the 8 to the dealer for a day if needed to make sure she is up to date.

I somehow misread the title to this thread as "Buying new wife with a new car."

Oops, got the '04 and '05 mixed up with the no haggle dealer thing. I say wait it out and fine one that really sticks out to you. It took me 2 1/2 months to buy my 8 because I couldn't find one in good shape with low enough miles that I really loved.

I would check the build date on the 04. Seems like later build ones are less likely to have problems (they'd have more of the fixes from the factory.) Just my opinion though. That being said I'd always vote 05,06,07 over an 04. I like the fabric seats, less sliding through the twisties than the leather.
