Exclamation Buying RX8 on Vacation -- help!

First, I've been reading this forum for nearly a year -- great place!

Finally decided to get an 8 -- super!

On vacation now (was going to buy after returning from holiday break) in Florida and just came across a great deal of exactly the car we want -- at $4k off MSRP (32k to 28k, 6spd, GT and stuff).

Around where we live it seems hard to get at such discount (Indianapolis, IN). I asked for car shipping, its about $650 using DAS (I've used them before).

Should I buy? Can readers comments on how much discount they have gotten around Indy and Chicago area?

Thanks!

Just be sure to get the entire contract filled in before you sign or pay for anything. The dealers around here are notorious for huge fees if you're not careful.

04s

At the end of July Wilkens on Roosevelt Rd (Chicagoland) was trying to move '04s with $3000 off sticker. I settled elsewhere (in July) for about $3500 off. I was just at a dealer in Schamburg today who still had an '04 on the showroom floor. My point is that I'd guess you could do some serious discounting if you are willing to help Chicagoland clear out the '04s.

currently here in libertyville, il (north of Chicago) you can get $3500 off on leases and $1500 cash back for loans.

Don't count on great deals for much longer. Due to the devastating fire in the plant producing the RX-8, there will be a gap in production of several months and dealers will soon realize that those units in transit or in stock can be sold for premium prices. It's the old supply and demand thing.

If you can get the deal, go for it man! Due to the fire at Mazda's plant in Japan where the RX-8s are made, availability will soon go down and prices go up.

The 3000/3500 was not a cash buy, but it was the last day of the month. I am sure the last day of the year is even better. The dealer I refered to in Schaumburg, IL said they don't sell many 8's in the winter, another possible incentive to deal now. Are you looking at an 04 or 05? Good points about the fire, I wonder if that is enough delay to clear the stock around here.

With a cash buy, you could probably knock down at least another $1k from where you're at now. A lot of power comes with straight cash.

Possibly so... but dealerships will capitalize on the production shortage (due to the plant fire) if the demand for RX-8s stays constant. We might even see '8s selling for MSRP or higher again.

I do know one thing: Just for fun, I just happened to check Kelly Blue Book (http://www.kbb.com) last night on the value of my RX-8 last night, and the Retail value of the car with 7000 miles is MORE THAN I PAID FOR IT BRAND NEW. :D Yeah, I know KBB is not the bottom line, but it at least gives you some idea... :D

You would think, but financing, aftermarket sales, leases and trade-ins are all extra profit opportunities for car dealers. I buy all my cars for cash and the dealers usually beg me to finance etc. I actually put the 8 on my credit card and got 1% rebate on my account. Paid it in full when the bill came in.
