I'm just up the street from you on 100th and Wadsworth.
And guys, I haven't asked anyone to do any work for me. In fact nobody posted a WORKING link til half way through. Excuse me that I'm not an expert at navigating this mess you guys call a forum :p

I'm going to school to be a mechanic. So believe me. I know things go wrong in cars. I had a 2nd gen eclipse that I spent more time under the car than I did driving it. ALL I was trying to do was build a budget. And so far I've added that compression test into it and also the ignition system. I've removed that duraflex bumper, and intake, and added a catless exhaust. That was my goal of this thread. I understand that things have been discussed on here before. But what's the point of keep coming on these forums if nobody brings up new topics because they've been discussed before. Yeah so what. I didn't feel like digging through mountains of info to find your guys' thoughts on an intake, or on some starting costs for the 8 when I can post a thread and get you guys talking about some information that you know off the top of your head.

I appreciate all the good information and I'll definitely consider some things before buying the car. But I hate how on every thread, on every car forum on the internet there's some grump that doesnt give any information rather than "search for it". I guess I gotta get good at finding a specific topic in this forum.

Cheers from 303
Brock

Colorado,

Aside from the negative reaction from the "mods" you are posting, part of the rest is that it's not really a matter of "trouble navigating the forum", but simply a matter of scanning the thread titles in the stickies in the main subforums, specifically RX-8 Discussion and FAQ. That being said, you should take a read through my two newbie threads:

New and Potential Owners START HERE!
First 9 posts.
Post #2 has general and specific issue sections that should answer several of your questions,
post #3 has information on ignition and oils that should answer a couple more,
post #4 has the basic overview of power mods and their impact that will be useful for another point,
post #6 has RX-8 specific stuff to look for and ask when going to look at an 8 as well as details on the compression test

See how we anticipated the questions? These are just some of the points covered, many of the rest of the points in each post and the remaining unmentioned first 9 posts is stuff you should be aware of and/or we expect you to ask about, so read all 9 posts thoroughly.

Newbie's Guide to Modding the RX-8
First 11 posts
This one goes through every commonly modded part of the car, even some 'mods' that are just behavior changes. It gives the basics for each mod, what you can expect, though most points get FAR more involved and should be researched prior to pursuing. Reading all 11 posts might not be needed, but if you think you want to mod a part of or an aspect of the 8, take a glance through to see what you need to keep in mind first. Example, it notes in there how good the OEM intake is. I don't specifically call out bad intake designs, but the Weapon R is considered the worst branded intake for the 8, with the K&N Typhoon competing with it for last place. All ebay un-branded intakes are even worse.

This is not your common sports car. Until you actually start learning how unique this car is, assume that NOTHING is the same as a piston powered sports car. There are plenty of ways the RX-8 is the same, it's still a car after all, but until you learn what is and is not different, it's best to really start trying to learn.

Sitting there waiting for people to tell you won't get a very good reaction around here, since we have already told you. Just maybe not in your thread, and probably not since you have joined. It doesn't mean that we didn't already put it out there, hash it, discuss it, etc...

Get to know Google searching, like site:rx8club.com weapon-r intake VERY VERY useful. Quite a bit of information here, it's a lot to sort through, but entirely possible.

Keep the questions intelligent and showing what you have been reading, and you will typically get solid answers without people reacting like this.

Just a pro-tip.

Actually I read through critically you're thread about new owners and did find very useful info. Thanks. I was more interested in how this stuff would cost me at first but now I'm more concerned of the shape the car is already in rather than enhancing it. Thanks for providing useful advice for searching and pointing me in the right direction.

That's what sets some people off - they interpret it as "feed me." IMHO, people who are tired of answering questions that have been asked and answered before should just sit back and let folks who are not tired of it reply. Knowledge should flow from generation to generation. Let everyone take a turn at retelling what they've learned.

But... IMHO it's well worth browsing the forums. Subject line discipline is pretty good. Pick some threads that seem to be on a topic of interest. Digest enough of the mountains and you'll get the collective wisdom of a lot of people, not just that of the griot of the day.
